A documentary based on the Console Wars book will be airing next week.
Production companies have been trying to do something with Console Wars: Sega, Nintendo and the Battle that Defined a Generation for years. The Blake J. Harris book chronicles the two Japanese companies’ rivalry in the 90s era of console games.
Initially pitched as a movie, the adaptation later transitioned into a limited series, with Kong: Skull Island’s Jordan Vogt-Roberts set to direct. Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, both of whom contributed to the book, were attached as executive producers.
Now, a documentary film based on the book as emerged. It’s directed by Blake J. Harris, the book’s author, along with Jonah Tulis, and executive produced by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg. The film is coming to CBS All Access on September 23, after having initially been set to debut at South by Southwest.
It’s not clear if the original series is still in development at CBS. The book is non-fiction, but it was criticised for its dialogue, which, though based on true events, was itself dramatised.
At the very least, the trailer seems to sit somewhere in the middle. Given that it features interviews with the real people at the helm back then, it probably won’t have the dialogue of the original text.
Thanks, ET Online.
