Nintendo managed to find a way to make their current-gen console both portable and fit the big-screen. Thanks to the Nintendo Switch, modern gamers can play their favorite titles on-the-go or plug it into the TV for a full-screen experience. Moreover, thanks to third-party support, the Switch accommodates not just Nintendo titles but some of gaming’s best offerings. Lastly, Nintendo spices things up with useful peripherals such as alternative Switch docks as well as pro-controllers.
Gamers know how important controllers are for their experience. After all, the Switch’s control pad scheme might not accommodate more competitive gamers or those who want to replicate the usual console experience. Thankfully, some third-party manufacturers just have the right Switch Pro Controllers for the job.
Updated February 1st, 2021 by Stephen LaGioia: Much like the games themselves, there’s been a fairly steady stream of Switch-related accessories to mix things up and enhance the gaming experience – often at reasonable prices. This is particularly the case with Switch-compatible controllers, which come in many options ranging from traditional controllers to Joy-Con variants; and even retro-style devices. With so many input devices to choose from – not to mention some fluctuating prices – it seemed like a good idea to refresh and flesh out this list with even more third-party controllers to try for Nintendo’s console.
13 Fire Joy-Con Controller
If the vibration was a tad quieter and the buttons a little beefier – this would likely have been higher on the list. Still, these unique Joy-Cons from BestFire make for a neat and nostalgic way to play titles like Super Smash Bros. Ultimate along with various GameCube ports and GC-esque software.
These controllers are heavy-duty and packed full of functionality for their price; featuring some fairly nuanced dual vibration, built-in gyro, and rechargeable batteries. GC buffs should get a kick out of it, though the controller’s solid, robust D-pad also makes it a good option for gamers who favor the retro and the 2-dimensional.
Price: Around $50
12 Nyko Dualies
Though Nyko’s take on the Joy-Con has garnered mixed reception, it’s hard not to be a bit intrigued given their very distinct look and budget-level price. Of course, these devices can’t be snapped into the Switch console for handheld gaming, but they do make for a solid option for docked or tabletop play.
These chargeable controllers come with motion control, rumble feedback, and a curved, ergonomic design for more ideal gripping.
Price: Around $35
11 Funlab Wireless Pro Controller
Those seeking a Switch wireless pro controller for a reasonable price should look no further than this underrated option. For roughly half the cost of Nintendo’s official Pro Controller, this Funlab device offers much of the same functionality. It has a 3-tiered vibration function, 6-axis gyro, along with the fun little bonus of turbo buttons for those frantic, action-packed games.
The ergonomic nature of the device makes it comfortable to hold, and the wireless functionality via Bluetooth proves stable and vast, offering a range of about 32 feet. It comes with a built-in battery that takes just a few hours to charge at most, and lasts around 8-10 hours before needed to be refueled.
Price: Around $30
10 8BitDo SN30 Pro Plus Bluetooth Gamepad
The 8BitDo SN30 Pro Plus Bluetooth Gamepad instantly gets on this list thanks to its sleek appearance. Its straightforward keypad surface and two handle sticks make it quite the minimalist controller. Granted, its controls are arranged in a way that makes it feel more of a standard console controller. However, where it shines is in its sheer degree of control.
Pro gamers will appreciate the level of control they have with this device. Aside from its replaceable rechargeable battery pack, this controller also works with Android, Windows, and MacOS devices. Moreover, this device features software that allows players to create macros, remap buttons, and change various degrees of sensitivity.
Price: Around $50
9 8BitDo SN30 Pro Bluetooth Gamepad Controller
Players who want a more retro look for their gaming can opt for the 8BitDo SN30 Pro Bluetooth Gamepad Controller. Unlike its sibling, this variant doesn’t have the handle sticks. However, this device does sport quite an awesome retro look that makes it the perfect controller for any player’s arsenal.
As with its sibling, this controller sports Bluetooth compatibility and the same firm buttons. Thanks to its Bluetooth support, players can still get a wireless controller and enjoy playing even offline. Moreover, thanks to its size, this controller becomes extremely travel-friendly for players. As with its sibling, players can use this controller for Windows, Android, and MacOS devices as well.

8 Beboncool Switch Pro Controller
Gamers who want a more feature-filled alternative for their Nintendo Switch Pro Controller might want to get the Beboncool Switch Pro Controller. Moreover, its customizable Turbo button gives players the opportunity to map handy macros here and there.
Moreover, the controller also sports handgrips on the handle sticks, which becomes a nice addition for players who need a better degree of control and handling. In addition, its default black appearance features the same blue and red aesthetic of the Switch, which is a nice touch.
Price: Around $25
7 PowerA Enhanced Wireless Controller
Thanks to the PowerA Enhanced Wireless Controller’s appearance, players will feel as though they’re still holding the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller. Its sleek design almost perfectly mirrors that of Nintendo’s device. However, PowerA does give players two bottom buttons that they can map into anything they want.
Unfortunately, this controller does lack some special Pro Controller features such as Amiibo NFC Support, IR, and HD Rumble. Moreover, it does run on AA batteries, which might be a bit of a turn-off for some. However, the PowerA Enhanced Wireless Controller does come with motion controls and a ton of game-themed designs.

6 PowerA Wireless GameCube Style Controller
Players who want an alternative retro look might want a bulkier Pro Controller. Thanks to the PowerA Wireless GameCube Style Controller, players get exactly just that. Moreover, players get a handy new layout for the buttons, which mimics the GameCube and may even suit the Switch experience. This modern controller has motion controls but lacks NFC and rumble capabilities. Unfortunately, the device also runs on AA batteries instead of being rechargeable.

5 PDP Faceoff Deluxe + Audio Wired Controller
Who doesn’t want a neat headphone jack for their Nintendo Switch? Players who want to compartmentalize their Switch experience can get the PDP Faceoff Deluxe + Audio Wired Controller and ensure their audio needs are accommodated by just a single controller. Unlike other third-party controllers, this device has a headphone jack that players can use to listen to music without interrupting other people. As such, this controller becomes the perfect gateway for enjoyable solo experiences.
Of course, sometimes good things come with some caveats. This controller has a 10-foot cable, which can be an annoyance to some. However, this does make this controller a safe option for at-home play.

Players who want an alternative controller for their Switch might opt to get Joy-Con alternatives. Thanks to JALVDE Wireless JoyPad Controller, players get the luxury of having hand grips for their Joy-Con. Unlike Pro Controllers, JALVDE’s gadget “replaces” the Joy-Con with JoyPads, Joy-Con-looking gadgets with hand-grips. This option allows players to enjoy the Switch more comfortably without the hassle of not having the usual controller grip.
Moreover, unlike a Pro Controller, the JoyPads allow players to take care of their Joy-Cons without having to buy a different-looking third-party gadget. Thanks to the JoyPads, players may not even need extra controllers.

As such, players can seamlessly and wirelessly connect their favorite controllers with the Switch with no worries and play their favorite Switch games.
