Amnesia: Rebirth Release Date is Just in Time for Halloween

Earlier this year, Frictional Games officially announced Amnesia: Rebirth, the long-awaited sequel to the hit horror game Amnesia: The Dark Descent. Frictional has now released a new trailer for Amnesia: Rebirth that gives fans their best look at the upcoming horror game yet, while also revealing a release date that will let fans check it out just in time for Halloween.

As revealed by the latest trailer, the Amnesia: Rebirth release date is Tuesday, October 20. In Amnesia: Rebirth, players explore a remote location of the Algerian desert as protagonist Tasi Trianon, which houses bizarre locations and eerie ruins. Like the original Amnesia, players will have to carefully manage their resources if they hope to survive, which includes things like matches and lanterns to light up dark areas.

The new trailer gives Amnesia fans their closest look yet at Rebirth‘s world and gameplay, but there are still some unanswered questions. For example, it’s unclear at this point if Amnesia: Rebirth will have a Safe Mode. For the uninitiated, Safe Mode essentially allows players to go through the game without having to worry about being killed by monsters, focusing only on puzzle solving and exploration. Purists tend to criticize such an option, but it does allow those who normally would be unable to play through a game like this experience at least some aspects of it.

Those that play through normally should expect encounters with some very strange creatures. The jury is still out if they will be as scary as the monsters in Amnesia: The Dark Descent, but it looks like Amnesia: Rebirth will have players encounter fleshy, alien-like creatures throughout the experience. They appear plenty unnerving in the trailer, and if previous games in the series are any indication, players will likely have little to no methods of defending themselves.

Amnesia: The Dark Descent earned quite a bit of praise when it originally launched in 2010 not just for its effective scares, but for its puzzles and exploration as well. Many reviews at the time noted the game’s physics-based puzzles as a highlight of the experience, and it will be interesting to see if the sequel is able to deliver a similarly well-received experience. Frictional Games has an impressive track record of horror hits so far, and so the safe bet is that Amnesia: Rebirth will be worthwhile for fans of the horror genre.

Fans will find out if Amnesia: Rebirth from Frictional Games lives up to the hype when it launches next month.

Amnesia: Rebirth will launch on October 20 for PC and PS4.
