Epic Games and Psyonix are partnering up to give players exclusive in-game rewards in both Fortnite and Rocket League. To celebrate Rocket League’s transition to free-to-play, Rocket League players with an Epic Games account will receive free vehicle cosmetics.
Rocket League released in 2015 on PlayStation and Windows initially. It has maintained its popularity, ranking in the top ten most-played games ever, and amassing over 500,000 concurrent players across all platforms in March. Now, Rocket League will team up with the most-played game to put on this Llama-Rama event.
While not much is known about what the Llama-Rama in-game event will entail, Epic Games has announced the in-game rewards for Rocket League. Starting when Rocket League goes free-to-play on September 23rd, players who download Rocket League from the Epic Games Store will receive a $10 Epic Games coupon to spend on qualifying games and add-ons that cost more than $14.99.
Rocket League players can also get exclusive in-game rewards for signing into their Epic Games account, including the Sun Ray Boost and the Hot Rocks Trail for free. If players go one step further and link their accounts for cross-progression, they can also receive the Chopper EG Wheels. All three cosmetics may be a great way to show off some flair, especially for new players jumping on the free-to-play model who have not gotten a chance to earn vehicle cosmetics.
The Llama-Rama event will launch on September 23rd, but Fortnite’s role is yet to be announced. According to Epic Games, the event will feature rewards for Fortnite as well as Rocket League, however, the Llama-Rama event has only been confirmed for Rocket League. It is possible that the event will only be held in Rocket League, but will have rewards for Fortnite as well.
Epic Games acquired Rocket League developer Psyonix in 2019, so the event featuring both games is not surprising. Rocket League was previously available on Steam before the purchase, but will be only available on the Epic Games Store for PC players starting on September 24th. However, Steam will still support updates and features for players who already purchased the game. Epic Games listing Rocket League for free may boost the amount of players active in the title, which could result in more in-game events and support down the line.
Rocket League is available now on PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
