Xbox Releases Strange New Game Pass Ad for Playing on Phones

With the next-generation of gaming right around the corner, and experimental ideas like game streaming starting to find their stride, it is a wonderful time to be a gamer. Xbox is attempting to start this next-generation with a bang, and one of the ways it is doing this is by pushing streaming video games with the Xbox Game Pass. Through an advertisement on Twitter, the gaming giant just released a very odd, but amusing, video for mobile Xbox streaming.

Xbox has some goodwill going for it right now, especially thanks to the price reveal and details of the Xbox Series X and S. The social media team seems to be having fun lately, including the Xbox Twitter sending out an “eyes” emoji meme in response to the initial Series S price leak. In keeping up with the fun nature of Xbox promotion, Xbox just tweeted a music video of sorts about Xbox Game Pass, and it has the potential to go viral.

The video comes with a funky beat and lyrics that are seemingly corny – but by design. The song pushes some of the features and details, including the fact that there are over 100 games on the streaming service, that is available on Android now, and that it all comes with an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription. To fully grasp the advertisement, it needs to be heard.

The phrase “so many games” is used frequently in the ad, and for good reason. The solid value proposition of paying $15 a month to play hundreds of games, including all Xbox exclusives, is hard to deny. The advertisement also reminds players that they can play games anywhere and at any time, which is something they’ve never been able to do with Xbox before.

Other points that the video emphasizes include the fact that the service is available now on Android, which reminds players that Xbox Game Pass streaming is not coming to iPhone/iOS. This is certainly something that iPhone users hope will eventually change, as it was even available in the preview version on the Apple products for a time.

The video also highlights the fact that streaming on phones and tablets is in beta mode still. This is important to note because some users of Xbox Game Pass on phones have noticed issues, but that is natural for a service that is in its infancy. As amusing as the advertisement is, it emphasizes some important things and is funny enough to be shared with friends and be remembered. It’s an interesting and likely effective marketing choice by Xbox.
