PlayStation Fan Makes Awesome PS5 UI Concept | Game Rant

With the PlayStation 5 reveal event happening later today, official information on the console’s release date, launch lineup, and more is expected. Whether fans get a look at the PS5 UI is yet to be determined, but if they do, it will be hard for the official version to live up to a recent fan-made design.

While Sony was releasing cryptic, live action trailers for the PS5, one fan was hard at work on a concept for the upcoming console’s UI. Reddit user Felixmsw posted his design to the PlayStation subreddit, including comparison photos with the current UI for the PS4. Given the fact that Felixmsw’s own UI design feels like a natural evolution of the PS4 setup, the comparison photos are a great way of showing how much better the design is.

The first UI image features Modern Warfare, the Call of Duty game where a player went on killstreaks while playing the drums. Like the PS4 UI, the main menu features a horizontal line of the games downloaded on the system, with players pressing down on each thumbnail to get more info on each game. This is where the fan design really shines, as Felixmsw eliminates much of the PS4’s clutter in this area. Rather than having one screen where everything is thrown together, the tabs on the left open a different section of their own.

Felixmsw includes sections for Start, Trophies, Community, and Store, which covers just about everything the current PS4 UI does. While one more tab may need to be added for the rumored save sharing feature on PS5, this fan-made UI keeps all the important info while making the menu less overstuffed. Felixmsw also designed one of the tabs, showcasing how detailed each would be.

The Start tab eliminates the need for a main menu, as the press of a button would take players to one of Modern Warfare’s four game modes. Being able to instantly jump into Warzone would get players into games much quicker (though it will not stop players from using the Stadium glitch). At the bottom of the screen, friend sessions can also be seen, with the fan-made design using PlayStation icons Joel Miller and Nathan Drake to simulate real players. The most popular DLC purchases can also be seen on the far right, making for the perfect amount of information on one screen.

The other tabs likely speak for themselves, with Community showing screenshots and streams while Trophies shows a game’s trophy list and possibly friend progression. There is really no denying that this fan design knocked it out of the park, so if the official UI is shown at the PS5 showcase later today, hopefully it looks at least a bit similar.
