After Microsoft’s Xbox Series S leak led to the company confirming the price and release date of the Xbox Series S/X, it was only a matter of time before Sony followed up. Now, during today’s big PS5 event, Sony has officially confirmed the prices of its PS5 Standard and Digital, as well as when players can expect to get their hands on it.
The PS5 Standard Edition will retail at $499.99 while the Digital Edition comes in at $399.99 Unlike the Series S and Series X which feature some hardware differences, consumers should note that the only real difference between the two is the PS5 has a disc drive while the Digital Edition does not. As such, it’s really up to preference, but whichever fans prefer, both editions of the consoles are confirmed to release on November12 in US and select countries, while others will receive it on November 19.
With roughly two months before release, that’s a not necessarily a lot of time to save up the necessary money. Still, this is where pre-orders come in and can make the whole process a lot simpler. Pre-order dates for both consoles were not announced quiet yet, but with reports indicating the PS5 supply may struggle with demand, it may be wise to try to lock in this pre-order as soon as possible. Whether that’s at a brick-and-mortar retailer like GameStop or an online retailer like Amazon, the sooner it’s locked in, the better.
After all, not only should the price and specific release date of the PS5 come into consideration, but the new games that will be coming to the game. Godfall and Spider-Man: Miles Morales are just two launch titles many want to consider, not to mention current gen games that will be upgrading to the PS5 for free. In short, fans should go into this next console generation with the expectation of a ton of games available as early as possible, something not normally seen between transitions, and they should go in prepared for that.
