Earlier today, Capcom announced two new Monster Hunter titles that will be exclusive to Nintendo Switch, Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin, a sequel to the 3DS RPG spin-off; and Monster Hunter Rise, which looks to be the Switch alternative to Monster Hunter World.
Both games already have release dates, though they are always subject to change, and while we can expect a few more details at this year’s Tokyo Game Show, which will be taking place next week, Capcom has laid out the two available editions for Monster Hunter Rise fans can get their hands on.
First is the Standard Edition, which doesn’t offer anything extra beyond the base game, as expected. For those wanting a little extra, there is a Deluxe Edition that includes extra content. While it only includes a digital version of the game, which may be off-putting for those who prefer physical media, it comes with Kamurai layered armor for the hunter and Shuriken Collar and Fish Collar layered armor pieces for the Palamute and Palico animal companions respectively, Gestures (4 Jumps), a Samurai pose set, Kabuki face paint, and an Izuchi Tail hairstyle.
Capcom also notes that the armor sets are purely cosmetic and only change the characters’ appearance. They don’t come with any weapons either, so it’s not like Deluxe Edition owners will have any distinct advantages over other players.
Anyone who pre-orders either version will be entitled to three other bonus items. The first two are layered armor sets that act as alternate costumes for the Palamute and Palico, which make them resemble a Retriever and Forest Cat respectively. Aside from that, players will receive a Novice Talisman, which will provide extra assistance for the early stages of the game, though it’s not clear exactly what this means. The fine print mentions that the pre-order bonuses may be added to the game after launch as well.
Currently, Monster Hunter Rise can only be pre-ordered digitally, with no word on when physical pre-orders will be made available. Fans may want to keep an eye on Capcom’s social media accounts. Capcom didn’t share any details on pre-orders for Monster Hunter Stories 2 but, given that the game is coming much later, it’s likely too early to go into that.
Monster Hunter fans clearly have plenty to look forward to once support for Monster Hunter World ends this fall, with one final battle against the Elder Dragon Fatalis serving as the climax.
In other Capcom news, Devil May Cry 5 Special Edition has been announced as a PlayStation 5 launch title and will come with several next-gen upgrades and Vergil as a playable character.
Monster Hunter Rise will release for Nintendo Switch on March 26, 2021.
