Nvidia has released one of its biggest Geforce driver updates yet.
456.38 have rolled out for Nvidia Geforce GPU owners. The new drivers chiefly bring support for the RTX 3000 series cards. The RTX 3080 is now available (and we’ve reviewed it), and the 3090 follows on Thursday.
But the new drivers aren’t just about the shiny new GPUs, they also bring several features to owners of existing GPUs. The biggest new addition is HDR gameplay recording with Shadowplay, available when installing the Geforce Experience app. Owners of GTX 950 up to the new RTX 3000 can now record gameplay at up to 4K 60fps in HDR, or 8K 30fps HDR with an RTX 3090.
From GTX 600 and up, users can now also turn on in-game performance and latency monitoring. When turned on, a sidebar will display frame-rate, clock speeds (CPU, GPU), memory clock, CPU and GPU utilisation, fan speed, temps and more. There’s a basic one that only displays a few key stats, and an advanced that offers more details. You can set shortcuts for each one.
RTX desktop GPU owners also can make use of the new One-Click Performance Tuning feature. This is essentially an auto-overclock tool that scans your GPU and determines where gains could be made, overclocks it and tests it for a few minutes. You can even independently adjust voltage and power, or set a fan speed target.
The three features above are only accessible after checking the ‘Enable Experimental Features’ box under Settings > General.
Outside of that, these are the required drivers for Mafia: Definitive Edition (out September 25), and Halo 3: ODST (out September 22). Strangely, there doesn’t appear to be any specific optimisations for Marvel’s Avengers, though the game has been added to the list of supported Optimal Game Settings list in Geforce Experience.
Fortnite players eager to try out the game’s new ray tracing DLSS support can now also do so after installing these drivers.
Hit up the Nvidia blog for everything coming with the update, and visit the download page to grab the new drivers.
