After much speculation and anticipation, CD Projekt Red has announced the technical specs required to run Cyberpunk 2077 on PCs. The eagerly awaited, hi-tech RPG is visually impressive, and many players have been waiting on pins and needles to see if their machines will pass muster.
Over eight years after it was first announced, Cyberpunk 2077 is finally set to hit consoles on November 19th. As is always the case with lengthy development cycles, hitting a technical sweet spot that allows as many players to participate as possible, while also producing show-stopping visuals, is a major challenge. But CD Projekt Red has proven itself equal to that challenge with its Witcher franchise, and the barebones requirements for Cyberpunk 2077 appear far more modest than many gamers may have feared.
The system specs are as follows:
- OS: 64-bit Windows 7 or 64-bit Windows 10
- DirectX Version: DirectX 12
- Processor: Intel Core i5-3570k or AMD FX-8310
- Memory: 8GB
- Graphics card: Nvidia GTX 780 3GB or AMD Radeon RX 470
- Storage: 70 GB HDD (SSD recommended)
- OS: 64-bit Windows 10
- DirectX Version: DirectX 12
- Processor: Intel Core i7-4790 or AMD Ryzen 3 3200G
- Memory: 12GB
- Graphics card: Nvidia GTX 1060 6GB or AMD Radeon R9 Fury
- Storage: 70 GB SSD
CDPR’s Global Community Lead, Marcin Momot, promised that Cyberpunk 2077 would have a relatively small file size, but the game’s 70 GB footprint is truly impressive, given its purported scale. Another impressive achievement on the list is the meager minimum GPU, as the GTX 780 was released over seven years ago. The minimum Intel CPU listed is even older, allowing gamers with dated processors to bask in the neon-saturated streets of Night City.
These humble requirements are a pale reflection of the game’s maximum graphical potential, however. Nvidia and CDPR recently teamed up to show off Cyberpunk 2077‘s raytracing and DLSS features, and the results are jaw-dropping. From its first teaser trailer, Cyberpunk 2077 has been a sight to behold, and graphics fiends are bringing their highest expectations to the experience.
While it is reassuring to know that a broad player base will be able to enjoy the title without needing to upgrade, Nvidia’s RTX 3080 is the ideal card for Cyberpunk 2077—provided gamers can secure one. Major retailers sold out of the gigantic GPU minutes after it became available for preorder, yesterday.
After numerous delays and a steady trickle of tantalizing details, the long wait to dive into CDPR’s futuristic underworld has only grown more difficult. But CDPR has assured gamers that the current release date is definitive. The few weeks remaining before launch are an ideal time to tune up older systems, install upgrades, or check out other futuristic sci-fi titles in the same vein as Cyberpunk 2077.
Cyberpunk 2077 is due to launch on November 19th, 2020 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, while PlayStation 5, Stadia, and Xbox Series S/X versions are planned for a first quarter 2021 release.
