Super Mario 64: Mario Wings to the Sky Guide | Game Rant

Players that want to earn all of the Stars on Super Mario 64‘s first course, Bob-omb Battlefield, will eventually need to complete a challenge called Mario Wings to the Sky that centers around collecting five special coins. The catch here is that these coins hang in mid-air, and reaching them may initially seem quite difficult. Fortunately, with just a bit of preparation fans should have little trouble grabbing the requisite coins and earning this Super Mario 64 Power Star.

While it is technically possible to finish Mario Wings to the Sky without unlocking the Wing Cap in Super Mario 64, the challenge is much easier with the assistance of this special power-up. For the uninitiated, the Wing Cap can be earned by first collecting 10 Stars and then standing on the sun that is found on the floor in the castle’s lobby. From there, players should direct their cameras toward the sun on the ceiling to be instantly transported to a level with a big red switch, which will unlock the Wing Cap when pressed.

When this is done, Super Mario 64 fans can return to Bob-omb Battlefield and go straight from the start until they reach the light-grey, stone pyramid that houses a cannon. They should then use this cannon to reach the hovering platform that is nearby, and players will find yet another cannon and a red block on the surface. From here fans should hit the aforementioned red block to gain the Wing Cap, and they should then promptly jump into the cannon.

At this point players should use this second cannon to fire Mario toward the nearby coin rings, and the goal here is to contact all five coins at the centers. The Wing Cap makes doing this quite easy, as fans can circle back for any coins that they may have missed the first time through, but it is still important to be somewhat mindful of timing. Indeed, this Mario power-up only lasts 60 seconds, and thus players must act with some amount of speed.

After the last coin has been collected fans will see a Star appear, and they can use the Wing Cap to go to it directly if they have been swift in their coin collecting. This will mark the end of the Mario Wings to the Sky challenge, and players are then free to earn more of the Bob-omb Battlefield Stars or move onto one of the other courses in Super Mario 64.

Super Mario 64 is now available as part of Super Mario 3D All-Stars, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
