Ed Boon Teases New Content for Mortal Kombat 11 | Game Rant

Since the release of the Aftermath expansion earlier this year, NetherRealm Studios has gone quiet in regards to what’s next for Mortal Kombat 11. While some fans have accepted the fact that the stream of post-launch content may be at an end, others continue to hold out hope that the studio isn’t quite done yet. Fans were hopeful of an announcement at last month’s DC Fandome digital event with Ed Boon being a guest, but the show came and went without any new information besides a special in-game event. However, it seems the studio may not be done yet as new teases have recently come to light.

While he may be known as someone who enjoys trolling his fanbase, the latest Mortal Kombat 11 tease comes from creative director Ed Boon. On Twitter, Boon posted a cryptic message with a link to a YouTube video for the famous song Bohemian Rhapsody from the band Queen. Accompanying the link was the message: “Queen gives you your first Klue at what’s koming for MK11. #ActualKlue #1.

Naturally, this set off a new wave of speculation and rumors as to what it could mean as well as what part of the song Boon is attempting to highlight. Thankfully, he followed the Tweet with another clue, specifically calling attention to the lyrics “Open your eyes.. look up to the skies and see.” Unfortunately, that’s all Boon has given fans to go off of so far.

The most immediate line of thinking points to the addition of a new character though the community seems divided on who it could mean. First thoughts seem to immediately go to the missing ninja’s like Reptile, Ermac, Smoke, and Rain. On the surface, there doesn’t appear to be an obvious link outside of Smoke and Rain being related to the elements, actual things person could look up and see.

However, some other fans have linked another guest character, potentially crossing over from Rocksteady’s recently announced Suicide Squad. In this case, fans are highlighting Harley Quinn, a character that NetherRealm is already very familiar with considering she’s been featured in the Injustice line of games as well. The biggest clue may be in the song Boon posted, which was used to originally promote the Suicide Squad movie back in 2016.

Of course, the Tweet remains just vague enough that Boon could legitimately be talking about anything, from new character skins to a new map such as the Sky Temple. One thing this Tweet proved is that fans continue to have a big interest in Mortal Kombat 11, especially in continuing to build out the roster with fan favorites and new guest characters. If the Boon Tweet is anything to go by, MK11 may still have some life in it yet.

Mortal Kombat 11 is available now for PC, PS4, Stadia, Switch, and Xbox One.
