The 10 Best Battle Royale Games For Beginners | Game Rant

A battle royale is an online multiplayer game where players across the map battle it out until only one player or team remains. Battle royales have been the most popular genre in gaming for quite a while now and thousands of people play them daily. As a result, many companies are trying to get in on the genre’s success.

Some battle royales can be quite challenging and players that are new to the genre, or video games in general, may not have a lot of fun if they begin with such a difficult game. To avoid that problem, here are 10 battle royales that are great for new players.

10 PUBG

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, better known as PUBG, is the game that started the battle royale genre in gaming. Due to being the first of its kind and other battle royale developers trying to make their game unique, PUBG can seem rather simple compared to the others. What makes PUBG so popular even with all the other games out there is its accessibility. PUBG is one of the few battle royales that can be playable on nearly every modern day device that people can play video games on. Without this classic, battle royales may not have gained their popularity.

9 Spellbreak

A game that just came out this month is Spellbreak. Though there was a beta earlier in the year, this new battle royale wasn’t officially released until September 3. Spellbreak is a fantasy game in which 42 players fight against each other, making this one of the battle royales with the least amount of players per game. As a result, players have a lot of time to loot and do not run into opponents as often as they do in other games, making this one of the easiest battle royales there is. The art style is very similar to Breath of the Wild and the violence is mild, making this a game suitable for most ages.

8 Call of Duty: Black Ops 4

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 was a highly anticipated game in the franchise and was the first Call of Duty game to have a battle royale mode with it. Though this installment of the series still has a lot of the elements that the previous games had, this one focuses on the inclusion of Blackout, the battle royale mode, rather than a single player campaign.

Fans can play as characters from the series like Alex Mason and Frank Woods as they fight for victory. Outside of Blackout, Call of Duty fans can also enjoy Multiplayer and Zombies mode, just like in the other titles in the franchise.

7 Realm Royale

Realm Royale is an online fantasy game made by the creators of Paladins and Smite. There are four classes to choose from: warrior, mage, assassin, and hunter. Each class specializes in different skills and weapons. Upon choosing their class, players enter a fantasy world with five regions. One mechanic that makes Realm Royale different from other battle royales is that when looting, players can choose to disenchant items and get shards. These shards allow players to get new weapons, abilities, and items, or upgrade the ones they already have by going to a forge. Realm Royale is one of the most appropriate battle royales for children. Before someone dies, they turn into a chicken for clucking out loud!

6 Battlefield V

The Battlefield franchise, like Call of Duty, is a popular shooter that implemented a battle royale mode into its newest release. Though Battlefield V was very controversial upon release, fans tend to really enjoy the battle royale mode, Firestorm. Firestorm allows up to 64 players to play per game. This mode is exactly what fans would expect from a battle royale of Battlefield. Players can blow things up, drive vehicles, and more, now on the huge map, Halvoy. Despite the backlash that EA first faced when the game was announced, Firestorm brought in players and gave Battlefield V more success than it had in its initial release.

5 Tetris 99

Everyone knows Tetris, but not everyone knows that there’s a battle royale version of the popular tile-matching game. Exclusively on Nintendo Switch Online, consumers can get Tetris 99 for free. This game has players battle against each other to see who the best Tetris player is. By clearing rows, players can send them to other players as a way to attack their opponents.

There are multiple modes including a harder difficulty that is only accessible after getting a win and a mode in which players can join one of four teams and support other players. Nintendo supports the game a lot with its constant crossovers with Nintendo properties in which players can get new themes.

4 Call of Duty: Warzone

Originally introduced in last year’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, another battle royale game in the franchise is Call of Duty: Warzone. Though it was originally only available with Modern Warfare, a free version came out earlier this year. Up to 150 players can fight each other in this game and there is more of a focus towards respawning than there is in other battle royales. The amount of players and the respawn mechanic causes the game to have a lot of fast paced action, making this one of the most popular and free battle royales.

3 Apex Legends

Another battle royale that has characters with special and unique abilities in it is Apex Legends. The abilities of each character can make a huge difference with the gameplay. For example, Bloodhound can track opponents down, Mirage can clone himself while turning invisible, and Lifeline is a healer who can revive her comrades faster than others can. This results in teammates having to work together more in this game than in most other battle royales. Apex Legends takes place in the same world as the popular FPS series, Titanfall, which helped make this title one of the most successful battle royales.

2 Fortnite

The most popular battle royale game is Epic Games’ Fortnite. Without it, the genre wouldn’t be where it is. Fortnite is another shooter that manages to be suitable for most kids. The game’s massive crossovers and live events constantly keep fans coming back for more. Though the battle royale mode is the main reason for the game’s popularity, players can also play a PvE mode called Save The World, as well as make and play other game modes on their own islands. This makes Fortnite a game that anyone can enjoy.

1 Fall Guys

This brand new game takes elements of battle royales and party games to create a title that is far from falling. Fall Guys is consideed by many to be similar to a game show due to the minigames this unique battle royale has to offer. These minigames include obstacle courses in which players race to the finish line, team games where players have to work together, and a variety of games that are unlike any of the others, such as Hex-A-Gone and Tip Toe. Fall Guys became an instant success and is one of the few titles that has been able to compete with Fortnite in terms of popularity.
