Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War has received good reviews from most community members, until now. While the game is still only in Alpha, fans have noticed a prominent problem on one of the three available maps. Black Ops Cold War‘s map, Miami, may be too large for its Alpha test game mode.
The issue was raised by multiple players who have spent hours in the new Alpha version of the game. Although, Black Ops Cold War’s Alpha only holds three maps, the players seem to be using their map voting powers to avoid the particular map.
The problem appears with the map Miami in its 6v6 game mode. The main problem is similar to the same complaint that fans had during Modern Warfare’s release: the maps are too big for 6v6 gameplay. With Miami being a large map, players in 6v6 game modes typically found that they could go quite a while without encountering enemy players. Streamer Yuskey made jokes about napping through the match, while the team kill count told players exactly why. After a full game match, there had only been a total of 28 kills despite 6v6 matches requiring many more points before awarding a win. Matches on Miami are currently more likely to go to overtime rather than actually awarding a win for point collection.
With 10v20 and 12v120 play modes on their way, Miami is sure to make up the difference. More players can fill in the map allowing for more action-packed experiences despite the size of the map itself. For the moment, fans are simply voting to skip Miami as a map.
The issue is that in a 6v6 game mode there are simply too many locales to explore throughout the map. Mix that with vehicles and obstacles and players will find that this massive map takes even longer to navigate through. A 6 person team is simply not large enough to be a viable impact on such a large field of battle.
This means that some players will spend most of the game either sitting in one space or walking in circles trying to find enemy players. Thanks to the tight corners and long pathways, players have just as much chance dying after two minutes of walking around as they do actually finding an enemy.
With the Beta planned to launch in October, many fans are hoping that Treyarch will listen to their feedback. Although Miami is overall a good map, it would stand a better chance in larger game modes.
Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is planned to release on November 13th for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
