The PS5 is a big console. In fact, the PS5 is so large that some fans have begun to wonder how they will make space for the console when it finally releases. Luckily for them, one artist has created an augmented reality version of the PS5 that fans can place anywhere they like to get see how it would look in their real-world surroundings.
The design was created by Virtual Studio, and New York-based 3D-design agency that creates 3D renderings of various products. The agency created a 3D rendering of the disc drive version of the PS5 that can be accessed at Sketchfab, an online library of 3D assets. Anyone with a smartphone that supports AR technology can project the 3D rendering into their real-world home to see the scale of the PS5 first-hand.
After opening the link, all fans have to do is tap on the AR button on the bottom right of the rendering to view the PS5 model through their device’s camera. If a fan opens the link on a desktop, they can click the AR code one the bottom right to open up a QR code that can be scanned using a smartphone. After that, the PS5 model can be projected onto an entertainment center, desk, or shelf.
It is important to note that Virtual Studio uploaded the model before Sony released the official dimensions of the PS5, so the size of the AR model is not exactly to scale. However, the AR version of the console appears to be similar to the official dimensions and scale illustrations of the PS5, so the model still gives fans a good idea of how the console might look in their homes.
The size of Sony’s next gen console has surprised some fans. At 15.4 inches tall, 10.24 inches deep and 4.09 inches wide, the PS5 is Sony’s largest console to date and will likely be the largest console that many players have ever owned. The digital edition is roughly the same size, but about half an inch shorter. For comparison, the PS4 Pro is only 12.9 inches tall, 11.6 inches deep and 2.17 inches wide. The PS5 is also larger than the Xbox Series X, Series S and the Xbox One.
The release of the PS5 is fast approaching, and some lucky fans may have already pre-ordered the console, if they were able to navigate the PS5 pre-order madness. The AR model of the console should at least give fans something to hold themselves over with until the PS5 finally hits shelves in November.
The PS5 launches November 12, 2020.
