Last year, Epic Games purchased Rocket League developer Psyonix. Now, as Rocket League is preparing to transition to being free-to-play on the Epic Games Store, an in-game event for Rocket League is launching to celebrate. The Llama-Rama event starts on September 26 at 3:00 p.m. PT and brings popular items from Fortnite to Rocket League.
The vehicle-based soccer game will go free-to-play starting tomorrow, so new players have plenty of time to download the game before in-game rewards for the Llama-Rama event become available. Previous Rocket League events have featured unique in-game currency earned from any matches that could be spent on themed rewards, but the Llama-Rama event will instead reflect Fortnite‘s challenge system.
According to Psyonix, the Llama-Rama event will have Event Challenges, which reward players with a specific item for each challenge completed. The challenges have yet to be revealed, but if they are all completed, players can earn the Fortnite Battle Bus as a playable vehicle. The Battle Bus will join many vehicles from other games and pieces of pop culture featured in Rocket League, such as the Warthog from Halo, Sweet Tooth from Twisted Metal, and the Batmobile.
Some of the Event Challenge rewards in Rocket League have already been revealed and fit the Llama-Rama theme. So far, they include a Fortnite Llama paint job, wheels, banner and topper. The Fortnite Battle Bus also comes with signature wheels, as well as the balloon it uses to float in the air in Fortnite. Players who finish the Event Challenges not only get the Battle Bus, but can fully deck out their vehicles with a blue and purple llama theme.
Players can also unlock exclusive rewards by linking their Epic Games accounts, and starting tomorrow Rocket League is launching “Season 1” with a new Battle Pass. Although it will actually be Rocket League‘s 14th season, this is the first season being hosted under Epic Games.
Rocket League was released in 2015 and has maintained its status as one of the most-played games ever. This March, Rocket League broke its peak player record across all platforms with over 500,000 active players. Now, with the game going free-to-play, even more players are expected to join the physics-based action. By starting the season partnered up with Fortnite, the most-played game ever, Rocket League has even more potential to grow.
Rocket League is available now on PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
