PS5 Photos Show How Big The Console Really Is | Game Rant

The PlayStation 5 is officially on the way now that Sony has finally announced the PS5 price and release date. At the moment, pre-orders for the next-gen console are already open in most retailers, but as expected, stocks are extremely limited. Of course, for those lucky few who were able to secure a pre-order of the PS5, the big question now is whether or not it will fit in their entertainment system once the console releases this November.

Of course, it is no secret that the PlayStation 5 is not a small console. Ever since its announcement, Sony has been open about the fact that the next-generation system will be bigger than its predecessor in an effort to more efficiently cool its internal components. However, one wouldn’t be able to grasp the sheer size of the PS5 just by looking at official photos alone, given that those are designed to make the console look as good as possible.

Now, new photos from Taiwan’s National Communications Commission (NCC) recently emerged online showing just how massive the PS5 really is. In the photos, the PS5 lays on its side next to a pair of rulers, confirming earlier reports that the PS5 is the biggest game console in modern history. Officially, Sony revealed that the PS5’s dimensions are 15.4″ in height, 10.34″ deep, and 4.09″ wide. However, based on the photos released, it appears that the console is slightly bigger than the official dimensions especially when considering the bulky base plate.

Unfortunately, the photos only show the size of the standard version of the console and not the PS5 All Digital Edition. Due to the lack of a disc-drive, the All-Digital Edition will feature a slightly smaller profile than the standard version, but it still remains a bulky console overall. Given this, it is important for players who are planning on getting one to also consider the physical size of the PS5 to ensure that they won’t have any trouble fitting it into their entertainment hubs once the console is released.

Luckily for players, a New York-based 3D design agency called Virtual Studio is offering an AR version of the PS5 that fans can place anywhere to allow them to see how it would look in real-world surroundings. The 3D rendering can be accessed at Sketchfab and anyone with a smartphone that is capable of AR can project the PS5 to anywhere in their home to see whether or not the console will fit in their preferred location.

The PlayStation 5 launches November 12, 2020.
