This fun and quirky system allows Pokemon fans and collectors alike to find new avenues of adventure within Azeroth alongside a team of trusty companions. Most original pets became battle pets along with hundreds of new ones. With so many options, how does one know what the best options are?
From vanilla to Battle for Azeroth and beyond, there are hundreds of tamable pets in the wild, lootable from dungeons and raids, or collected from special events. Each one comes with its own unique stats separated into health, power, and speed. Explore some of the best options the game has to offer and build an unbeatable team.

Choosing the best pets for a team goes beyond their basic stats. It’s also a study of their ability slots and deciding which abilities in each tier better compliment a team. A thorough understanding of the mechanics of each ability helps many a battle pet tamer build the perfect team to take on the new and exciting challenges in the realms of death.
10 Anubisath Idol
The Anubisath Idol is a stoic remnant of an ancient empire and a rare quality Humanoid pet from Ahn’Qiraj. At level 25, it has 1,725 health, 276 power, and 244 speed. Slot one ability options include Crush, with an advantage against Dragonkin, and Demolish, with an advantage against Beast. Slot two ability options include Sandstorm, with an advantage against Aquatic, and the Stoneskin buff. Slot three ability options include the Deflection buff as well as Rupture, with an advantage against Mechanical.
This pet also comes with the Humanoid passive ability which heals the user when it deals damage. At maximum level, the Anubisath Idol is a powerful companion that swiftly power-levels other pets and takes on most tamers with ease. It’s a primarily slow attacker, but Deflection always goes first.
Slot 1 Abilities:
- Crush – 100% hit chance, deals 325 Humanoid damage
- Demolish – 50% hit chance, deals 592 Mechanical damage
Slot 2 Abilities:
- Sandstorm – 100% hit chance, deals 370 Flying damage and summons sandstorm for 5 rounds (5 round cooldown)
- Stoneskin – Reduces up to 74 damage done to you for 5 rounds
Slot 3 Abilities:
- Deflection – Avoid enemy attacks for one round (always goes first, 3 round cooldown)
- Rupture – 100% hit chance, deals 444 Elemental damage, 25% chance to stun
9 Spawn of Garalon
The Spawn of Garalon is a tiny version of the behemoth insectoid it gets its name from and a rare quality Beast pet from Heart of Fear. At level 25, it has a whopping 2,131 health, 203 power, and 236 speed. Slot one ability options include Trample and Claw, both with an advantage against Critter. Slot two ability options include the Shell Armor buff and Ravage, with an advantage against Critter. Slot three ability options include Burrow and Lumbering Charge, both with an advantage against Critter.
This pet also comes with the Beast passive ability which allows it to deal additional damage when below half health. Because of this passive, it becomes a very tank-like pet quite difficult to defeat.
Slot 1 Abilities:
- Trample – 100% hit chance, deals 111 Beast damage plus 10% of the target’s health
- Claw – 100% hit chance, deals 234 Beast damage
Slot 2 Abilities:
- Shell Armor – Reduces up to 167.25 damage done to you (lasts 2 rounds, 5 round cooldown)
- Ravage – 100% hit chance, deals 223 Beast damage, restores 223 health if enemy dies (Continues for 2 rounds, 1 round cooldown)
Slot 3 Abilities:
- Burrow – 100% hit chance, attack on next round for 334 Beast damage (4 round cooldown)
- Lumbering Charge – 100% hit chance, attack on next round for 557 Beast damage
8 Chrominius
Chrominius is a type of core hound, a dog-like beast with two heads. This one is a small version of Chromaggus from Nefarion’s Lair where it drops from. Chrominius is a rare quality Dragonkin pet which has 1,644 health, 276 power, and 260 speed at level 25. Slot one ability options include Bite, with an advantage against Critter, and Arcane Explosion, with an advantage against flying. Slot two ability options include both the Howl and Ancient Blessing buffs. Slot three ability options include Ravage, with an advantage against Critter, and Surge of Power, with an advantage against Flying. This pet comes with the Dragonkin passive ability which allows it to deal additional damage after dropping an enemy’s health below 50%.
Slot 1 Abilities:
- Bite – 100% hit chance, deals 296 Beast damage
- Arcane Explosion – 100% hit chance, deals 148 Magic damage to active pet, deals 88 Magic damage to backline enemy pets
Slot 2 Abilities:
- Howl – 100% hit chance, increases damage on effected enemy by 100% (lasts 2 rounds, 3 round cooldown)
- Ancient Blessing – Heals user for 414 health, increases maximum health of active pet by 5 per level (lasts 9 rounds, 3 round cooldown)
Slot 3 Abilities:
- Ravage – 100% hit chance, deals 296 Beast damage, restores 296 health if enemy dies (lasts 2 rounds, 1 round cooldown)
- Surge of Power – 100% hit chance, deals 740 Magic damage but causes a recharge state for 2 rounds (5 round cooldown)
7 Lil’ Ragnaros
As the name suggests, Lil’Ragnaros is a tiny version of the Firelord and only available from the in-game shop. It’s a rare quality Elemental pet with 1,400 health, 374 power, and 211 speed at level 25. Slot one ability options include Sulfuras Smash and Magma Wave, both of which have an advantage against Mechanical. Slot two ability options include Magma Trap and Conflagrate, both of which also have an advantage against Mechanical. Slot three ability options include Flamethrow and Sons of Flame, still with the same type advantage as its other abilities.
Being an Elemental, Lil’Ragnaros has a passive ability allowing it to ignore negative weather effects. However, because it’s made of flame, Aquatic abilities deal additional damage against it.
Slot 1 Abilities:
- Sulfuras Smash – 100% hit chance, deals 433 Elemental damage
- Magma Wave – 100% hit chance, deals 137 Elemental damage, destroys all enemy objects
Slot 2 Abilities:
- Magma Trap – 100% hit chance, deals 394 Elemental damage if triggered and disables enemy for 1 round (5 round cooldown)
- Conflagrate – 100% hit chance, deals 591 Elemental damage, deals 197 Elemental damage if enemy is burning (4 round cooldown)
Slot 3 Abilities:
- Flamethrower – 100% hit chance, deals 295 Elemental damage and summons inferno which burns enemy for 98 Elemental damage each round for 2 rounds
- Sons of the Flame – Become unattackable for 2 rounds, Sons deal 98 Elemental damage each round (8 round cooldown)
6 Graves
Graves is a quirky-looking zombie pet from the Heroes of the Storm promotional package. This cute little ball of doom is a rare quality Undead pet with 1,587 health, 297 power, and 244 speed at level 25. Slot one ability options include Skull Toss and Consume, both of which have a type advantage against Humanoid. Slot two ability options include BONESTORM and Grave Destruction, both again having type advantages against Humanoid. Slot three ability options include the Clobber and Consume buffs.
As an Undead type, Graves has a passive skill allowing him to return to life for one round upon death. However, once resurrected, he deals less damage.
Slot 1 Abilities:
- Skull Toss – 100% hit chance, hits skull marked enemy for 348 Undead damage
- Consume – 100% hit chance, deals 190 Undead damage, heals for 100% of damage dealt (1 round cooldown)
Slot 2 Abilities:
- BONESTORM – 100% hit chance, deals 206 Undead damage but costs 10% of health (3 round cooldown)
- Grave Destruction – 100% hit chance, deals 523 Undead damage split among enemy team, destroys all enemy objects (5 round cooldown)
Slot 3 Abilities:
- Clobber – 100% hit chance, stuns target for 1 round (5 round cooldown)
- Consume Corpse – 100% hit chance, restores 50% total health, use only once per corpse (3 round cooldown)
5 Minimancer
Minimancer is a vicious little monster from the Stratholme Pet Battle Challenge. It’s a rare quality Undead pet, and at level 25 it has 1,908 health, 203 power, and 280 speed. What it lacks in power, it more than makes up for in speed, often the first to attack in battle. Slot one ability options include Shadow Shock and Soul Steal. Slot two ability options include Raise Ally and Grave Destruction. Slot three ability options include Death and Decay as well as Bone Barrage. All attacks come with a type advantage against Humanoid.
Minimancer’s passive ability allows it to raise from the dead for one round after death. During this period, it deals less damage than normal.
Slot 1 Abilities:
- Shadow Shock – 100% hit chance, deals 245 Undead damage
- Soul Steal – 100% hit chance, deals 275 Undead damage, heals user for 50% of damage dealt
Slot 2 Abilities:
- Raise Ally – Summons minion that deals 144 Undead damage each round (minions last 4 rounds)
- Grave Destruction – 100% hit chance, deals 523 Undead damage split among enemy team, destroys all enemy objects (5 round cooldown)
Slot 3 Abilities:
- Death and Decay – 100% hit chance, deals 33 Undead damage to active enemy pet for 9 rounds (persists through pet swaps)
- Bone Barrage – 80% hit chance, deals 301 Undead damage, deals 33 Undead damage each round for 4 rounds (1 round cooldown)
4 Servant of Demidos
The Servant of Demidos is a small demon similar to the tank pet for Warlocks. It drops from Demidos in the Draenor version of Shadowmoon Valley as a rare quality Magic type. It has massive power at an astonishing 366 at level 25. Additionally, the Servant has 1,197 health and 260 speed. Slot one ability options include Magic Sword, with an advantage against Flying, and Arcane Explosion, with the same advantage. Slot two abilities include Clean-Up, with an advantage against flying, and Sophon Anima, with an advantage against Beast. Slot three ability options include Lightning Shield, with an advantage against Mechanical, and Soulrush, with an advantage against Flying. As a Magic Type, the Servant earns a passive ability allowing it to never take more than 35% of their health in damage in a single attack.
Slot 1 Abilities:
- Magic Sword – 100% hit chance, summons minion that deals 328 Magic damage with 50% critical strike chance
- Arcane Explosion – 100% hit chance, deals 193 Magic damage to active pet, deals 115 Magic damage to backline enemy pets
Slot 2 Abilities:
- Clean-Up – 100% hit chance, deals 482 Magic damage, removes all enemy objects (3 round cooldown)
- Siphon Anima – 100% hit chance, deals 347 Mechanical damage, heals user for 100% of damage dealt (3 round cooldown)
Slot 3 Abilities:
- Lightning Shield – Deals 289 Elemental damage each time you take damage, lasts 2 rounds (4 round cooldown)
- Soulrush – 100% hit chance, deals 579 Magic damage, 25% chance to stun the target (4 round cooldown)
3 Zergling
Being one of the fastest pets in the game, no team is complete without a Zergling from StarCraft. It’s an older pet that came with the original World of WarCraft’s Collector’s Edition and is a rare quality Critter. At level 25, it as 1,237 health, 227 power, and an incredible 390 speed. Slot one ability options include Bite, with an advantage against Critter, and Flank, with an advantage against Undead. Slot two ability options include Metabolic Boost, with an advantage against Flying, and the Adrenal Glands buff. Slot three ability options include Consume, with an advantage against Humanoid, and Zergling Rush, with an advantage against Flying. The Critter passive ability grants it immunity to stun, root, and sleep effects.
Slot 1 Abilities:
- Bite – 100% hit chance, deals 247 Beast damage
- Flank – 100% hit chance, flanks enemy 102 times dealing 123 Critter damage per hit, hits an additional time if attacking first
Slot 2 Abilities:
- Metabolic Boost – 100% hit chance, deals 185 Magic damage, increases speed by 100% for 1 round
- Adrenal Glands – Increases critical strike chance by 50% for 5 rounds
Slot 3 Abilities:
- Consume – 100% hit chance, deals 148 Undead damage, heals user for 100% of damage dealt
- Zergling Rush – 100% hit chance, causes 177 Magic damage on first round, 295 Magic damage on second round, 413 Magic damage on third round, enemies hit take 50% increased damage for 2 rounds (continues for 3 rounds)
2 Nordrassil Wisp
Nordrassil Wisp is a rare quality Magic pet from Mount Hyjal. At level 25, it has a very high speed of 357 as well as 1,400 health and 227 power. Slot one ability options include Beam and Light, both of which have an advantage against Flying. Slot two ability options include Flash and Arcane Blast, both of which have an advantage against Flying. Slot three ability options include the Soul Ward buff and Arcane Explosion, which has an advantage against flying.
This speedy spirit has the Magic type passive ability allowing it to withstand hard hits. Nothing can damage more than 35% of its health in a single attack.
Slot 1 Abilities:
- Beam – 100% hit chance, deals 247 Magic damage
- Light – 100% hit chance, deals 247 Magic damage, deals double damage if enemy is blinded (3 round cooldown)
Slot 2 Abilities:
- Flash – 100% hi5 chance, deals 123 Magic damage and Blinds target, Blind reduces hit chance by 50% for 2 rounds (3 round cooldown)
- Arcane Blast – 100% hit chance, deals 185 Magic damage, damage increases by 61 each time used for a max 308 Magic damage

1 Magma Rageling
The Magma Rageling is an angry little elemental from Ignis the Furnace Master in Ulduar. It’s a rare Elemental type pet with a high power of 357 as well as 1,237 health and 260 speed. Slot one abilities include Flamethrower and Magma Wave, both with an advantage against Mechanical. Slot two ability options include Flame Jet and Fire Shield, again with an advantage against Mechanical. Slot three ability options include Volcano and Magma Trap, both with the same type advantage as other abilities. The Elemental passive ability allows Magma Rageling to ignore negative weather effects.
Slot 1 Abilities:
- Flamethrower – 100% hit chance, summons inferno dealing 282 Elemental damage, inferno burns enemy for 95 Elemental damage each round for 2 rounds

- Volcano – 100% hit chance, causes ground to tremble for 2 rounds, the ground erupts afterward for 2 rounds and damages active enemy pet for 320 Elemental damage, gives them a 25% chance to be stunned for 1 round (5 round cooldown)
- Magma Trap – 100% hit chance, enemies may trigger the trap when attacking, triggers cause 377 Elemental damage and makes them unable to attack for 1 round (5 round cooldown)
