Xbox Will Let Players With iOS Devices Install Games Before Purchase Soon

Within the last couple of years especially, Xbox has taken significant strides in terms of improving the quality of life for its users and consumers. Thanks to numerous updates and listening to user feedback, Microsoft has refined its various consoles with many facets that make navigating menus and managing game libraries much easier. The recently launched Xbox app is just another example of this.

The official Xbox app has recently launched on Android devices. This app is filled with all sorts of additional features for Xbox users to utilize. However, as of right now, the app is only available on Android, but luckily, the app is currently going through the Apple certification process. Thus, the app will be available on iOS devices soon, though no official release date has been provided yet. These iOS users will soon be able to utilize one of the Xbox app’s most useful features.

A recent trend that started during the previous generation of consoles was the fact that games now required players to install game files directly on the console itself. Initially, this was not that big of a problem, but now that game file sizes have started to become larger and larger, with upcoming games like Final Fantasy 7 Remake being well over 100GB in size, it’s started to become a rather large nuisance to most gaming enthusiasts. However, Microsoft has developed a way to help users save a lot of time.

As gaming journalist Jerko Cilas recently pointed out, Xbox users can now install games without physically owning them yet. This is possible by pre-ordering a game either digitally or physically using the currently Android-only Xbox app. Then, the game can install weeks or even months ahead of its intended release date. Cilas used Assassin’s Creed Valhalla an example.

The intended effect that Microsoft seems to intend for this feature is for users to immediately start playing the game and not have to wait however long it takes for the game files to install. This all but solves one of the biggest irritations many gaming enthusiasts have had for quite a long time now. It also helps that game file sizes are much smaller on Xbox Series S systems. While Android users can benefit now, iOS users shouldn’t have to wait much longer to make use of the new functionality once the app drops.

As previously mentioned, Microsoft have made changes to the UI layout of Xbox consoles several times. For example, as part of a June update, Xbox created a streamlined method of helping users organize their game libraries. However, this new app feature does much more to help Xbox fans.
