Kirby Fighters 2 Already Released on Switch | Game Rant

In the wake of a surprising leak, Nintendo has stealthily released Kirby Fighters 2 on the Nintendo eShop. Available now for $19.99, the Kirby vs. Kirby brawler pits fans against each other in an all-out Kirby battle royale.

Curious fans originally unearthed the game yesterday, thanks to an odd glitch on the Play Nintendo website. After fans gained access to the unannounced title, news of the leak quickly spread, and Nintendo was seemingly forced to make a move: as of this morning, the new game is available on the Nintendo eShop (along with a trailer showing off gameplay features.)

In short, Kirby Fighters 2 essentially feels like a version of Smash Bros. that features nothing but Kirby. The game, which is a sequel to a minigame available in the 3DS title, Kirby: Triple Deluxe, allows up to four players to duke it out on a 2D stage with platformsPlayers can choose between Kirby with 17 different copy abilities, or, a select few other series stars, like Meta Knight and Magolor.

Using Joy-Cons, players will be able to participate in 4-player battles using only one Switch console, though Online battles and Local Multiplayer will exist as options too. The trailer showcases a number of Kirby’s 17 forms, like Archer and Hammer, and even introduces Kirby’s new “Wrestler” form and abilities. Interestingly enough, characters like Meta Knight and King Dedede also seem to take advantage of some of the maneuvers they employ in the constantly evolving Smash Brosseries, like Dedede’s downwards-spinning hammer attack.

Aside from distinct characters to select from, Kirby Fighters 2 will offer players a variety of items and stages to enjoy. The trailer also makes it a point to highlight unique items like the Buddy Shooting Star, which are available only to players in Team Battle Mode. Such items apparently won’t activate until two teammates each hold up half of the item; once they do, though, an incredibly powerful attack is triggered.

All things considered, the release of Kirby Fighters 2 has certainly come as a surprise to most. Even with yesterday’s odd Play Nintendo leak, players didn’t expect Nintendo to simply concede and release the leaked title (unless that was the plan all along?) Although rumors of unreleased Kirby titles have been floating around for some time now, fans lacked substantial concrete evidence until recently. At any rate, for under $40, it definitely seems like something worth checking out for fans of fighting games. It may not be as expansive and comprehensive as all-star franchises like Smash Bros., but the framework’s similar enough, and any gaming fan can appreciate new characters to choose from.
