Is Mortal Kombat 11 getting new voices by the 1995’s movie stars?
Mortal Kombat 11 developer NetherRealm surprised fans when it announced that actor Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa, who portrayed Shang Tsung in the 1995 movie, would return to play the character in the game.
Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa of course, reprised his role in the Crypt and later returned to lead the game’s Aftermath expansion. Now, it turns out NetherRealm may have been working with more than just the Japanese actor.
Mortal Kombat 11 players recently datamined a number of voice lines believed to have been recorded by actors Christopher Lambert (Raiden), Bridgette Wilson (Sonya), and Linden Ashby (Johnny Cage). Reddit user Ix has collected all of them in one audio clip, though Warner has been clamping down on other mirrors.

There are only a handful of these for each of the three characters, and we can’t be 100% certain they are of the real actors. The idea is, however, very curious. Assuming this project has not been abandoned, NetherRealm could sell new voice packs or costumes for existing characters that turn them into their movie counterparts.
There’s also the chance, given how late into the game’s life we are now, that it was simply something NetherRealm was exploring at some point, but never actually saw to its completion. More than likely, the developer is currently working on its next project, so there’s little chance any of that will see the light of day.
Thanks, Kotaku.
