Since it launched this past March, Nintendo has supported the mega-popular Animal Crossing: New Horizons with regular content updates to keep fans engaged. The last major Animal Crossing update came in August, when Nintendo added things like Luna and Dream Islands. Now Nintendo has confirmed exactly when fans can expect the next big Animal Crossing: New Horizons update, and it’s coming sooner than some may have expected.
The Animal Crossing: New Horizons fall update release date is officially Wednesday, September 30, and it looks to be one of the most extensive updates for the game yet. The New Horizons fall update is themed around the Halloween season, letting players deck out their islands with Halloween-themed decor, as well as purchase candy from Nook’s Cranny. Players will also be able to grow pumpkins to unlock special DIY recipes, not to mention purchase Halloween costumes and further customize the appearance of their Animal Crossing villager.
All of this Halloween preparation will lead up to Halloween night, which will take place October 31 from 5pm to midnight. During Halloween, players’ villagers will be dressed in costumes, and the pumpkin-headed “czar of Halloween” Jack will also make an appearance. Players will be able to give out candy to their villagers during the festivities as well.
While the Halloween content is arguably the most notable new content coming to Animal Crossing: New Horizons in October, that’s not the only thing fans have to look forward to. Nintendo has also announced a NookLink update in early October that will allow players to perform Reactions by pressing a button on their real-world phone. This should save considerable time as they will no longer have to go through menus in-game to perform a Reaction.
Meanwhile, Nintendo has also confirmed when fans can expect the next big free update for Animal Crossing: New Horizons. At the end of November, Animal Crossing: New Horizons fans can download the next big update, which will be primarily focused on content based on Thanksgiving and Christmas. More details on what exactly that update will entail will be available when we get closer to the release date.
Of course, we may get a much better idea of what to expect from that update when fans datamine the fall update on September 30. After all, the ability to plant and grow crops, represented by pumpkins in the Halloween update, was leaked when dataminers dug through previous update files. It will be interesting to see if even more vegetables and farming mechanics are added to Animal Crossing: New Horizons in future updates as well.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons is out now, exclusively for Nintendo Switch.
