Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Will Feature Ray-Tracing, Uncapped Frame Rates on PC

Each new Call of Duty comes with anticipation and excitement of the possible new story, modes, and features. With Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War being the first COD title to transition to next-gen since Call of Duty: Ghost in 2013, this is the opportunity to add some features that fans have been asking for, and are now only possible with the new generation of video games.

The PC version of Black Ops Cold War will be handled by Beenox, and it will come with some upper-echelon features. According to a video that was recently released, the PC version of Cold War features uncapped framerates, a high refresh rate, and even a customizable field of view.

Beenox tells fans that Black Ops Cold War‘s engine takes advantage of DirectX 12 API, which will result in reduced latency issues. It will also, excitingly, support real-time ray-tracing, which helps in many ways, including making the game look more realistic, provide better lighting and reflection, and more. The additional effects with DirectX 12 API could help Cold War be the best looking Call of Duty yet.

Other features like being able to adjust the field of view is something that has become standard in PC titles, but the confirmation of this will assuredly be appreciated by fans. In games like Warzone, it is seen as a disadvantage that console players do not have an FOV slider, especially since the game is cross-platform. The hope is that with the Xbox Series X and PS5, players will be able to have more flexibility like their PC counterparts.

Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War is a direct sequel to the original Black Ops, taking place during some of the tensest years of the Cold War, in the early 1980s. With that in mind, it may be wise to brush up on the original game’s story for those who possibly haven’t played it since it came out in 2010.

The new Black Ops will also have some new features and modes from within multiplayer, as seen in the alpha for Cold War that recently dropped on PS4. Along with the standard set of new maps and weapons, Cold War will see the addition of a large-scale mode on massive maps, and even a mysterious three-player squad-based mode. One of the questions, in regards to some of the features that Beenox confirmed for Cold War, is whether or not all of these will translate to multiplayer. It is standard that the multiplayer of a game has some features tones down a bit, to equate for the action that is taking place literally around the world in multiple rooms over the internet. Cold War will be releasing in just a couple of months, so the full details will most likely arrive soon.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War launches November 13 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
