One major fear some players have when jumping into games that are built to be played as a multiplayer experience is whether or not they will be able to enjoy the game solo, or if a party is required. Fortunately, Genshin Impact‘s developer has informed players that while the game is built to be an enjoyable multiplayer experience, miHoYo’s upcoming open-world title is completely playable in both modes.
In a recent interview with Game Rant, representatives from miHoYo commented on a number of key aspects coming to Genshin Impact when people finally get their hands on the game. With an in-depth combat system that centers around building a team of four characters with varying weapons and elements, the game’s content is fortunately available for both players who want to party up with friends and solo fans.
One response from miHoYo involved a question about whether or not Genshin Impact‘s multiplayer open-world will be accommodating towards both solo and multiplayer fans as they explore the world and experience the story. According to the developer, the game can be experienced either alone or in co-op, with everything from the main storyline to more dynamic public events being available with or without a party. This can be a huge push for new players who either are trying to test out the game’s mechanics for a first time, or are still gathering up a group of friends willing to play along.
Our goal with Genshin Impact is to deliver an immersive open world, combining both single-player and co-op modes to allow you to explore the massive game world with your friends and join together for certain challenges such as boss fights and domains. Which mode you choose is entirely up to you — there are no stages or challenges that can only be completed in co-op mode.
This “play how you want” dynamic is often a major part of open-world titles, where exploration can often be a larger part of the experience than the combat or whatever story fills the massive space. Looking at other aspects of the game that miHoYo focused on when responding throughout the interview, it would appear that offering a thrilling experience for all different kinds of players did come first and foremost in the design process. Starting out by letting players continue to enjoy the game without being forced into matchmaking or needing to organize a group just to jump in and start playing should go a long way for opening up Genshin Impact to players.
From how miHoYo stands by its latest title, with plans to port Genshin Impact to next-gen, it would appear that the free-to-play title is expecting to have a little something for every player. The need to make solo play enjoyable and possible does go a long way for multiplayer games these days, as similar titles can often leave these types of players out of some of the best content available in the game.
Genshin Impact is set to release on September 28th, for Mobile, PC, and PS4, with a Switch version expected in the future.
