Scarlet Nexus Screenshots Show Off New Characters | Game Rant

Scarlet Nexus is Bandai Namco’s upcoming psionic-abilities meets technopunk RPG, and although it is still in development and won’t release until the end of next year, would-be fans are still getting peeks at new content and features. At the 2020 Tokyo Game Show, Bandai Namco officially revealed the game and is now following it up with screenshots of some of the game’s characters.

The Scarlet Nexus dev team describes its upcoming game as an entry in the “brainpunk” genre, a unique moniker that the devs created in order to best describe what is looking like a very unique RPG. Instead of a traditional cyberpunk game where technology sits in characters’ hands or on screens in front of them, technology lives inside players’ brains using a sci-fi technique called PsyNet. This strange melding of human brain activity and technofuturism helps the characters fight their enemies, the Others, and the protagonists form a group called the OSF (Others Suppression Force).

One of the newly revealed characters is an OSF member who goes by the name Tsugami Nazar, who is a classically reserved yet powerful dandere-type character whose power is called Clairvoyance. Another character is Gemma Garrison, a more experienced OSF member who uses the Hardening skill, and while PsyNet has slowed his inevitable retirement using anti-aging technology, he may be close to leaving the team due to his advanced age.

Other characters include Luka Travers, who uses Teleportation and is great at analyzing battles, and Kasane Randall, one of the two playable protagonists who has strangely prophetic dreams and is very  successful academically, leading her and her Psychokinesis power to be recruited into the Others Suppression Force. All these characters’ abilities will no doubt serve unique functions in Scarlet Nexus‘ combat gameplay, as was revealed at the Inside Xbox Gameplay Reveal Event.

Ever since Bandai Namco revealed its upcoming game at Inside Xbox, fans have been getting new information bit by bit, including a Scarlet Nexus gameplay trailer at Gamescom ONL showing off some of the psychic abilities players will be able to use in-game. This trailer revealed the other playable protagonist, OSF’s new recruit Yuito Sumeragi, who will fight alongside Kasane Randall and other characters to stop the hordes of psychotic aliens trying to steal human brains.

Fans can expect Bandai Namco to reveal more information as the release date gets closer, but until then, they can take a closer look at the trailers and screenshots available so far to get a taste for what Scarlet Nexus will be like.

Scarlet Nexus is in development for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
