Marvel’s Avengers just released a new update, which made a number of small changes to the game, including a fix for a Captain America issue that was inconveniencing some fans. As expected, dataminers have started digging through the new Avengers update file, and in the process, they have discovered a number of icons that seemingly leak new characters and content for the game.
The icons include Avengers characters that are already in the game, like Ms. Marvel, Iron Man, and the Hulk. However, it also includes icons for Black Panther and War Machine. War Machine hasn’t actually been confirmed as Marvel’s Avengers DLC just yet, and while Black Panther has been teased, he also hasn’t been formally confirmed by Crystal Dynamics or Square Enix. Notably, Hawkeye is absent from the icon list, which is a bit strange as he is set to be the game’s first post-launch hero.
The icons also have a few factions listed as well, which could hint at future alliances or enemy types that Marvel’s Avengers players will have to face off against. Among these are the Inhumans royal family, Dual Helix Science, New Coalition Alliance (with an Avengers logo), and War Council Military. Twitter user Miller noted that Avengers beta dataminers previously found references to the War Council Military that makes it seem as though that particular faction is being led by Dum Dum Dugan.
Like with any video game datamine, it’s entirely possible that this content was added as placeholder content or for content that won’t ever make it into the actual game. Considering this, fans should certainly keep their expectations in check before they get too excited about the possibility of the Inhumans royal family or Dum Dum Dugan getting added to Marvel’s Avengers.
Right now, there are just a few characters confirmed as DLC for Marvel’s Avengers. The aforementioned Hawkeye is on the way, as is Kate Bishop, who eventually takes the “Hawkeye” mantle in the comic books. Spider-Man is also coming to Marvel’s Avengers, but he won’t be added to the game until 2021, and when he does come, he will be a PlayStation-exclusive character.
Besides new characters, it will be interesting to see if Marvel’s Avengers adds any new substantial story content in the near future. Many Marvel’s Avengers reviews praised the single-player campaign and its story, so it’s safe to say many fans would be interested in seeing Crystal Dynamics craft more substantial story content for the game.
Marvel’s Avengers is out now for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One. It will launch on November 10 for Xbox Series X and November 12 for PlayStation 5.
