Releasing later this week, Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time is almost here, with the game set to take place after the events of Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped and act as a reboot for the iconic platforming series. Alongside a handful of crazy new levels, the game will also see players take on the role of various other series’ mainstays, such as Neo Cortex, Tawna, and Coco.
In the buildup to the brand new Crash Bandicoot release, Activision has been releasing tons of bizarre advertisements and commercials to hype up the mascot’s return. The newest of these hit today and sees the seminal video game marsupial meet up with famous rapper and member of the Migos, Quavo.
As is to be expected with a Crash Bandicoot trailer, the giant mascot outfit often associated with his live-action appearances is front and center here, wandering around city streets with a megaphone advertising the game. Suddenly, Quavo emerges from a nearby shop, brandishing a chain with a pimped out Aku mask on it. Before long, Crash and Quavo are rapping about the reboot’s newly added masks, with the pair definitely making for an utterly bizarre musical duo.
The ad stands alongside most of the other It’s About Time commercials in creating a library of promotional materials similar in style to those that accompanied Crash’s earlier games. Another recent advert looked to replicate one of Crash’s most notoriously strange moments in the 90s, with the Japanese commercial following the Bandicoot dancing with a family across several different locations as the game’s Japanese theme plays. Over the years, Crash Bandicoot’s bizarre ads have almost become as legendary as the hilarious mascot himself, with one even seeing the character journey to Nintendo’s headquarters to tell Mario that his days are numbered.
It seems all these fantastic adverts are a good indicator that Crash will be back to his roots when It’s About Time launches very soon. The game will seemingly be a dramatic return to form for the series, merging the old-school style of Naughty Dog’s original trilogy of games with some modern upgrades and features. Notably, the game will offer a mode for those not too keen on the idea of the original’s lives system alongside the ability to replay levels with interesting new modifiers and filters. It looks to be a packed re-envisioning of the seminal platforming franchise, complete with enough new additions to make any Crash fan happy.
