Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Reveals New Multiplayer Maps for Season 6

Activision released the official trailer for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Season 6 today, confirming new content such as a powerful armored truck with a mounted turret being added to Warzone. Those who are more interested in Infinity Ward’s traditional first-person shooter than its battle royale spin-off can look forward to seeing four new maps added to different game modes when the new season begins on September 28.

Two basic multiplayer maps are being introduced: Broadcast for 6v6 matches, returning from Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (2007); and Mialstor Tank Factory for both 6v6 and 10v10 matches, with areas sectioned off depending on the size. Fans of Modern Warfare‘s Gunfight mode will have access to a map called Station based in “a picturesque rural Kastovia train station,” according to the Activision Games Blog. Meanwhile, a suburban section of the battle royale map called Verdansk Riverside is being turned into a Ground War battlefield.

Based on the Season 6 Roadmap provided by Activision, no new maps are specifically mentioned for the rest of the season. However, Call of Duty: Warzone will get a Halloween-themed event starting on October 20, and though there are few details about the event as of this writing, it seems safe to assume Verdansk may receive a visual facelift to reflect the horror theming.

New maps are not the only things being added to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare throughout the course of Season 6. Two playable operators and two weapons will be made available starting September 28, alongside a new multiplayer mode called Killstreak Confirmed that gives players access to a “barrage of Killstreaks” as they collect enemy dog tags.

The free-to-play battle royale Warzone is also receiving substantive changes, most notably through its “Metro” subway system. The subway being added to Warzone in Season 6 has been teased for some time, and will act as a “dynamic fast travel system” to points of interest throughout Verdansk. According to the Activision Games Blog, fighting in and around subway stations is “fair game,” and the developers even recommend this as a method of ambushing.

Though Season 6 promises a lot of content to keep fans of the first-person shooter franchise occupied through October, many will likely still be looking ahead to the release of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War in November. Developer Treyarch recently unveiled the release date for Black Ops Cold War‘s Zombies mode, which will offer more horror-themed activities following Warzone‘s Haunting event.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
