FromSoftware’s Dark Souls series has become a household name, and a bastion for memes about video game difficulty, but many fans will say Bloodborne is the best title using its action RPG format. Rumors have circulated for months that Bloodborne will be remastered on Sony’s PlayStation 5, but one fan took the idea into their own hands with a test to see how the game might look on next-gen hardware.
YouTuber SnazzyAI uploaded a video to their channel Saturday that showcases gameplay footage from Bloodborne upscaled to 4K and 60fps using machine learning and AI video interpolation. The results are undoubtedly smooth and crisp, and in the video’s description SnazzyAI said they think it “really transforms Bloodborne,” which “had a poor framerate at best.” In fact, they said if the game did come to PS5, they would be open to it just running at a constant 30fps.
While there has been no official word on a Bloodborne release for PS5, a remake of FromSoftware’s Demon’s Souls by Bluepoint Games is going to launch alongside the PS5 on November 12, 2020. A recent report by Digital Foundry suggests the Demon’s Souls PS5 remake may not reach a 4K benchmark, despite impressive gameplay footage shown at a PS5 showcase earlier this month.
The creator began uploading videos on September 15, and their 16-project catalogue consists entirely of video game, television, and movie trailers or footage upscaled in a similar way to their Bloodborne video. Much of that relates to current events in the video game industry, for example taking the “Champion’s Unite” Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity trailer that premiered during Tokyo Game Show 2020.
Bloodborne‘s popularity amongst the general gaming populace, even beyond more recent FromSoft games like Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, has led to many creators using it as the basis for projects like fan art. Around the release of Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us 2 earlier this year, one artist put together a piece of art depicting its main character Ellie as though she were a Bloodborne Hunter.
Conversations around porting Bloodborne to PS5 have included rumors that the game may be ported to PC as well. Bloodborne is one of many PS4 exclusives that would be great on PC, at least in-part because the release would allow players to achieve higher graphical fidelity and framerates akin to what SnazzyAI shows off in their video.
Bloodborne is available now for PS4.
