South Park’s Townsfolk Showed up to see the Denver Broncos for Charity

Trey Parker and Matt Stone are never shy about including the Denver Broncos –or anything else for that matter– in random South Park episodes just for the sake of humor, but this past Sunday the residents of Colorado’s most famous fictional small town were the ones to make a cameo at Mile High Stadium.

As most NFL teams are starting to make accommodations to gradually allow a few thousand fans to attend stadiums, the Broncos plans for week 3 stuck to the same 5,700 people watching from the stands as in week 2, but added some notable cardboard attendees. 1,800 of them, to be exact.

Regarding the event, Comedy Central stated that the network would match the total cost of the cardboard cutouts and donate the money to the Denver Broncos Charities. Regular fan cutouts had already been made available by the Broncos since the start of the season, priced at $100 each, so that puts the network’s philanthropic effort at $180,000 donated to the team’s charities.

If there was ever any team that would end up hosting the colorful cast of characters from South Park, it was going to be the Denver Broncos since the show’s creators. Both hail from the state and attended the University of Colorado Boulder, where they became friends and creative partners in several projects that would eventually lead to them coming up with the Jesus Vs. Satan clip that transformed into South Park.

Parker and Stone are hardcore Broncos fans and throughout the show’s 23 seasons have made sure to include at least 10 mentions of the team, as well as occasional name-dropping some players every now and then, most notably John Elway, who is a demigod to the boys in the show. The show’s creators even take part credit for the Broncos’ Super Bowl XXXII victory in 1998, right after South Park’s successful debut, though sadly the team is still yet to recognize their part in that particular success.

With South Park’s one hour Pandemic Special set to premiere this Wednesday, it is still not known if the Denver Broncos will make an appearance, but whatever the case at least there’s official artwork of what every character looks like with a face mask, all for a good cause. Oh, by the way, Tom Brady’s Bucs beat the Broncos 28-10, much to Parker and Stone’s dismay.
