Animal Crossing: New Horizons Update Removes Hacked Items

While Animal Crossing: New Horizons fans have been waiting patiently for the big Fall update, the patch’s release did not just bring new goodies and game mechanics. The Fall Update is also removing hacked items, with one popular fence being taken away from New Horizons players.

This is not the only update where Animal Crossing: New Horizons players have seen Nintendo act against hacked items, as back in July Dream Islands featuring hacked star fragment trees were deleted. While players are not being punished for using the hacked fencing, which is a unique design that is only supposed to be seen on Harv’s photography island, fans are hopping back on their islands and finding the fence completely gone.

The only way to get the fence back is by never downloading the Fall update, though missing out on all the fun new Halloween furniture for some fencing does not seem worthwhile. While the fence being taken away makes sense considering the item was distributed by hackers and not meant to be accessible, fans have still been quick to mourn the loss of their Harv fences on social media. Simply searching “hacked fences” on Twitter will bring up dozens of comments from fans regarding the fence removal. One user named Gina shared how their island looks naked without the fences, while another user named Eli had a suggestion for how to implement the hacked items into the game.

The Twitter user suggests that completing a mini quest for Harvey should allow players to unlock a DIY for the popular hacked fences. With new DIYs added to New Horizons regularly, making a new one for Harv’s fence certainly seems reasonable. Eli also suggests letting KK give players his little stool if they listen to enough concerts, while players could plant one star fragment tree after every meteor shower. Whether Nintendo ever makes the items accessible is unclear, though the Animal Crossing community clearly has some good ideas about how to make hacked items legitimate.

For players who only mess with the official items added by the Animal Crossing developers, they will likely be looking to get the hang of the new pumpkin mechanic. Planting pumpkins allows them to grow over a set period just like the real thing, and after fully grown, the pumpkins can be used to make some adorable Halloween furniture. With the ability to adorn furniture with pumpkins and wear plenty of Halloween costumes, the update should keep Animal Crossing players busy until winter arrives.

With one player even finding a way to dress up as a Little Sister from BioShock for Halloween, this Animal Crossing update should be a safe alternative to the usual outdoors activities. Given the creativity of Animal Crossing players, it will not be long before they find a way to make trick-or-treating happen in the game as well.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is now available on Nintendo Switch.
