Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Confirms More Amiibo Figures for 2021

Just a few days removed from revealing Steve from Minecraft as the next Super Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC fighter, game director Masahiro Sakurai has revealed even more for fans to look forward to. In 2021, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate will be able to collect three more amiibo for their collection, all based on characters from the game’s first Fighters Pass.

While Persona 5‘s Joker and Dragon Quest‘s Hero are already available as amiibo, fans have been waiting for the other characters from the Fighters Pass Vol. 1 lineup to get their own amiibo figures. Sakurai has confirmed that Banjo-Kazooie, Terry, and Byleth amiibo figures are in the works and will release at some point in 2021. Unfortunately, Sakurai was unable to share more specific release date information for these new amiibo, but more details should come to light next year.

Since this presentation was a part of the Minecraft DLC showcase, Sakurai also mentioned the possibility of a Minecraft Steve amiibo for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Sakurai didn’t confirm that a Steve amiibo is in the works, but remarked that if one did materialize that it would likely be easier to make than the other amiibo available for the game. This is likely due to Minecraft Steve’s lack of detail compared to the other characters on the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate roster.

If Minecraft‘s Steve does get an amiibo, then one has to imagine that a Min Min from ARMS amiibo would be in the works as well. As some may recall, Min Min was the first of six characters revealed and released for Fighters Pass Vol. 2. Since Nintendo is just now getting around to releasing amiibo based on all of the Fighters Pass Vol. 1 characters, it stands to reason that it may have similar plans for Fighters Pass Vol. 2 characters for some point down the line. Maybe they’ll launch in late 2020, or maybe fans have to wait all the way until 2022 to get their hands on them.

In the meantime, it will be interesting to see the other Super Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC characters that make up the rest of Fighters Pass Vol. 2. Now that Min Min and Steve have been confirmed, there are still four more slots left to fill. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate development has been hampered by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, and so it’s possible fans will have to wait longer than usual for a reveal, but hopefully they find out sooner rather than later.

The Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Minecraft DLC release date is October 13, so fans shouldn’t expect to learn about the next new fighter until some point after that’s released. In fact, it wouldn’t be surprising if the next Super Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC fighter isn’t revealed until 2021, so fans should prepare for a long wait.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is out now, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
