Fallout 4: 10 Quality Of Life Mods We Can’t Live Without

Customization is a core part of what makes Fallout 4 enjoyable. Crafting has become a core gameplay component that extends to the game’s loot. Altering game systems doesn’t stop there, however. Bethesda also has released modding tools for Fallout 4 that allow for mods on PC or consoles.

If players find issues with Fallout 4 or want additional content, they are a quick install away from changing the game’s systems. While many focus on overhauling Fallout 4, many forget how useful quality of life mods can be, or improvements that focus on one aspect to make it more intuitive. From armor changes to scrapping everything in sight, here are 10 quality of life mods players will want to use in Fallout 4. This list is in no particular order.

10 Extended Dialogue Interface

Mod Created By reg2k and Neanka (Nexus Mods)

Fallout 4’s dialogue system lends itself to ambiguity more often than not. Certain sarcastic remarks or negative remarks come off differently than the menu would suggest. Instead of guessing what the player character might say, why not just read their response beforehand?

Extended Dialogue Interface does just that, bringing back the dialogue menu that older Fallout titles used. Responses are provided verbatim for the player to see. Better yet, this also provides as a modding tool that offers modders the ability to add additional dialogue options than the standard four Bethesda forced. Some of Fallout 4’s most anticipated mods are using Extended Dialogue Interface and for good reason.

9 Armorsmith Extended

Mod Created By Gambit77 (Nexus Mods)

Armorsmith Extended does so many radical changes to Fallout 4’s clothing system that it would be difficult to succinctly describe them all. In essence, Armorsmith Extended makes the clothing system of Fallout 4 much more flexible by allowing players to wear any outfit under any armor pieces. These changes come in addition to an overhaul of the armor mod system and the inclusion of more clothing options.

Most of these options seem over the line for a quality of life mod, but Armorsmith Extended’s core changes make the armor and clothing system of Fallout 4 much more intuitive. No longer do players need to worry about which article of clothing can fit under which armor piece. It also makes downright essential mods such as Ballistic Weave obtainable without having to side with certain factions. Overall, it makes the armor system of Fallout 4 much more intuitive and customizable.

8 Sim Settlements

Mod Created By kinggath (Nexus Mods)

Sim Settlements is similar to Armorsmith Extended in that it is a major overhaul to one of Fallout 4’s core mechanics. That said, this overhaul makes so many improvements to settlements that players won’t want to go back.

Sim Settlements is a mod that allows players to set down plots of land for NPCs to build on. Houses, farms, factories, virtually everything imaginable is provided here for NPCs to build. The mod is incredibly intuitive and easy to use. It brilliantly turns the settlement system from busywork to keep settlers happy to a core exploration loop for players to partake in. For those that still want to side with the Minutemen, the mod doesn’t touch the base settlement system at all. All of Bethesda’s settlement features are here for those that want to create one or two settlements completely by hand.

7 Salvage Beacons

Mod Created By kinggath (Nexus Mods)

Yet another mod from kinggath, Salvage Beacons are an essential mod that makes looting and crafting much easier. Once players have an inventory filled with junk, they can find a storage container and mark it with a salvage beacon. This will cause a group of settlers to visit the location and escort the materials back to a player’s settlement without their supervision. Instead of needing to travel to a workbench every few expeditions to store junk, players can continue to explore to their heart’s content thanks to this mod.

6 Unofficial Fallout 4 Patch

As with nearly every Bethesda game, Fallout 4 has plenty of bugs that can range from being harmless to game-breaking. Dealing with bugs can be a frustrating process, which is why those that are planning on modding Fallout 4 should install the Unofficial Fallout 4 Patch by the Unofficial Patch Project Team. As with most Unofficial Patch mods for Bethesda games, this mod fixes thousands of bugs with Fallout 4 that prevent quest progression and iron out smaller issues.

5 Start Me Up

Mod Created By TinyManticore (Nexus Mods)

Similar to how the Alternate Start mod for Skyrim skips the long execution sequence of Helgen, so too does the Start Me Up mod for Fallout 4 skip the incredibly long Pre-War introduction that all players must go through. Players will instead get to choose their stats, appearance, and their role in the wasteland.

It doesn’t end there, either. Should the player choose, Start Me Up can also edit the dialogue of Fallout 4 to omit the player’s relationship with Shaun or references to being a parent or someone who survived the atomic bombing of America. For those that want to roleplay as something new, Start Me Up is a must.

4 iHUD

Mod Created By Gopher (Nexus Mods)

Most heads-up displays (or HuD) can provide information to the player that is not currently relevant such as their health pool or ammo capacity. This is a rather small issue yet it takes up important screen space constantly.

That is where iHUD comes in, hiding elements of the HuD when they aren’t needed. Players can hide virtually any part of their screen until needed, and the mod is fully customizable. It might not sound like a large improvement but it makes a world of a difference for immersion.

3 OCDecorator – Static Loot

Mod Created By mcface and EbokianKnight (Nexus Mods)

OCDecorator is a blessing for those that want to decorate their settlements. This mod allows players to set objects as static, meaning they cannot be moved by any means. Running over the item or shooting it won’t make it move. For those that love to decorate their homes, this is a must to make sure objects don’t become misplaced by accident.

2 Quieter Settlements

Mod Created By Lemures (Nexus Mods)

Most settlement objects in Fallout 4 create a ton of noise when they are active, the most notable example being generators. Anyone who has managed a settlement with multiple generators and turrets knows how annoying it is. Quieter Settlements fixes this by making every audible settlement item generate much less noise. Players can finally hear gunshots and dialogue while next to a small generator.

1 Scrap Everything

Mod Created By shadowslasher410 and VIitS (Nexus Mods)

Scrap Everything is the best name for what this mod does. Nearly everything in a settlement can be destroyed or removed with this mod. Houses, sidewalks, trees, virtually any non-terrain object in the world that is within a settlement’s borders can be removed with this mod. This made creating large custom settlements and placing certain objects much easier.
