Fan Claims The Grinch Does Physics Better Than MCU Ant-Man

All fans of Ant-Man like the movies a lot, but this fan, who loves Marvel so, does not.

The Ant-Man series has done remarkably well in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, spawning two movies and important roles for the tiny hero in Avengers: Endgame and Captain America: Civil War. A third movie is also in the works, with Rick and Morty writer Jeff Loveness taking the reins of the script. But not everyone is very happy with how the films’ hard science was portrayed.

YouTube user DapperDevNull published a video titled “Why I Can’t Sleep At Night” back in 2019 where he gives a deeply analytical presentation on how MCU’s Ant-Man doesn’t properly follow the laws of thermodynamics, specifically focusing on Dr. Pym’s discovery of “reducing [a particle’s] size while maintaining its mass.” To which DapperDevNull replies, “Uh…he can no do that.” DapperDevNull even mentions that the Ant-Man comics better explain how the physics work, pointing out that Scott Lang’s particles are stored in another dimension when he shrinks instead of being compressed. Yet the MCU strayed from this and created their own explanation.

After he further analyzes quotes and scenes from the movies and comics, he suddenly throws a curveball: remember the 2000 film How The Grinch Stole Christmas? Remember that the microscopic “Who-cieties” are set inside a single snowflake? Can Ant-Man travel there and save Christmas? Where in the world is this going? It is then DapperDevNull presents his most compelling and controversial argument: How The Grinch Stole Christmas more accurately represents the physics of the universe than MCU’S Ant-Man. Boom.

While DapperDevNull expresses his distaste for the movie franchise, even fans of Ant-Man can enjoy this hilarious (and educational!) video. Not even the most diehard Ant-Man stan can watch Dr. Pym shrink his laboratory into a portable rolling suitcase and not think too hard about it.

And despite some fans questioning the logic behind the movies’ science, Paul Rudd’s Ant-Man still retains a huge following. With a third movie on the way and lots of excitement for its cast, people are eager to see how much further this microscopic hero can go. If only the physics were better.
