Ghost of Tsushima Co-Op Mode and More New Features Get Release Date

Releasing earlier this year, Ghost of Tsushima earned positive reviews, with its tale of honor and vengeance during the Mongol-led invasion of Tsushima going on to become one of 2020’s most critically-acclaimed experiences so far. In the months following its debut, Sony announced that the samurai adventure would be getting a spin-off co-op mode titled Ghost of Tsushima: Legendsallowing players to jump into a multiplayer take on Sucker Punch’s newest world.

Thanks to the PlayStation Blog, fans now know exactly when they’ll get their first chance to jump into Ghost of Tsushima’s co-op mode, with the site announcing that the game’s version 1.1 update will hit on October 16. The update will come with more than just the Legends mode, however, with Sucker Punch announcing a New Game Plus mode among other new upgrades.

According to the blog post, version 1.1 will be a significant update for fans of Ghost of Tsushima, bringing several major new enhancements to the single-player alongside the game’s multiplayer debut. The addition of Legends is the star of the show though, and the post doesn’t skimp out on sharing all the details about the cooperative experience. The mode is launched by finding an NPC called Gyozen the Storyteller in Ghost of Tsushima’s world, who will share elaborate stories about Japanese mythology with Jin. These tales set up the various game mode available in Legends.

Players will be able to take part in two-player story missions, three-player survival encounters, or four-player raids, with each featuring different objectives to complete. As many guessed, the title will also separate players into classes, with each member of the party able to select between the samurai, ronin, assassin, and hunter loadout, with each seemingly centering around an aspect of Jin’s combat style in the base game. Each class also has a special ability, including exploding arrows and even a ghostly spirit dog.

As for the New Game Plus mode, it will add several fun additions to the campaign for those who’ve already managed to conquer it. These include a new horse, powerful additions to the game’s line-up of charms, and an additional upgrade to the player’s bow, sword, and armor. There’s also a new merchant for players to meet on their travels, with the Ghost Flower vendor popping up exclusively in New Game Plus to offer players fresh dyes for their armor. The merchant trades in the brand new Ghost Flower currency, so players will have to save up for the newly added dyes. Finally, Sucker Punch added a loadout feature, which allows players to allocate certain charms to specific outfits.

Ghost of Tsushima: Legends is out on October 16 for PlayStation 4.
