Baldur’s Gate 3 Has Massive File Size | Game Rant

Hitting shelves tomorrow, Baldur’s Gate 3 looks to resurrect the Baldur’s Gate franchise for modern audiences over 20 years after the last mainline entry in the series. Debuting in early-access, it will allegedly offer a 25-hour campaign, with tons of strategic, turn-based combat encounters, hard-hitting, RPG choices, and heavily-immersive, Dungeons and Dragons gameplay.

For those looking to return to the Baldur’s Gate universe when it launches tomorrow, there’s one huge question surrounding the upcoming sequel that has yet to be answered. Considering the game looks to be a comprehensive RPG experience with a lot of depth, how much hard drive space will this huge experience take up?

As it turns out, fans have finally got the answer to this question, and sadly, they might have to start shuffling some games around to fit the long-awaited sequel onto their hard drive. According to the Steam page for Baldur’s Gate 3the game’s size will clock in it at a whopping 150 GB, easily taking up a significant amount of space on any player’s PC. To put that into perspective, the remasters of Baldur’s Gate and Baldur’s Gate 2 that released on Steam only took up 3 GB, showing just how much bigger this new release will be in comparison to its much older predecessors. It’ll be interesting to see if the hefty size of the file signifies that the threequel will be a densely packed RPG experience, with fans certainly hoping that it’ll bring the series back with the depth associated with previous mainline entries.

As games get bigger, file sizes are certainly beginning to veer more towards the extreme, with titles such as Call of Duty: Modern Warfare no longer fitting on a 250 GB hard drive. It seems likely that it’ll be a bigger problem in the years to come, especially with new reports claiming that PlayStation 5 games will clock in at similarly hefty sizes. Spider-Man: Miles Morales Ultimate Edition, which comes loaded with a remaster of Marvel’s Spider-Man, is said to take up 105 GB, while Demon Souls clocks in at the much smaller size of 66 GB.

For Baldur’s Gate 3, however, it’s likely a good sign that the devs have loaded enough content into the game to warrant such a large install size. After all, in the eyes of fans, Larian Studios’ resurrection of the franchise is one of 2020’s most anticipated releases thus far, with thousands waiting with bated breath to see how it turns out. With such a dedicated dev team behind it, however, it seems primed to be worth the wait.

Baldur’s Gate 3 will be available on October 6 for PC and Google Stadia.
