More Mortal Kombat 11 DLC Teased by Ed Boon | Game Rant

NetherRealm Studios’ Mortal Kombat 11 has seen a fairly steady stream of content since it released in early 2019. Between a Kombat Pack and the Aftermath DLC expansion, players have gotten additional story for the fighting game and new guest fighters including DC Comics’ Joker, Image Comics’ Spawn, and RoboCop. However, according to Creative Director Ed Boon, “We’re not done yet.”

Boon put out a Tweet earlier today praising the game’s high sales numbers and said fans will be able to see what’s next for Mortal Kombat 11 sometime this week, including the hashtag “KombatKontinues.” Over the past few weeks, the acclaimed developer has been releasing vague clues about upcoming content on Twitter to keep players guessing, and just last week Boon debunked two theorized DLC characters: Havik and Kobra.

Some fans have been uncovering potentially more concrete answers about which fighters will be releasing in Mortal Kombat 11 by sifting through the game’s code. Dataminers say that Sylvester Stallone’s Rambo will be joined by Mortal Kombat veterans Rain and Mileena in its next big content release. Leaks based on game code should be taken with a grain of salt, but the timing of Boon now preparing his audience for an announcement this week suggests the leaks may hold water.

While it seems likely new fighters will be coming to Mortal Kombat 11 soon based on aforementioned leaks and social media clues released by Boon, it is not entirely clear how they will arrive. Boon’s Tweet today seems to imply that something big may be coming in the vein of another complete expansion like Aftermath, but at the same time it’s vague enough to obfuscate how expectations should be set.

One possible argument against the idea that another huge expansion will be announced is the fact that Aftermath content is still being released. NetherRealm just put out the All Hallows’ Eve skin pack for Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath to celebrate Halloween. New characters could be included as part of Aftermath, or even a second Kombat Pack, without a potentially long runway leading up to a large-scale content release.

At this point, only time will tell. Luckily for fans of Mortal Kombat, the wait for new information will be over within the week according to series co-creator Boon, and if previous leaks are correct than players can look forward to pitting Rambo against Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Terminator in brutal, deadly combat.

Mortal Kombat 11 is available now on PC, PS4, Stadia, Switch, and Xbox One.
