Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time has finally been released and it’s bringing with it plenty of hard-to-find collectibles that the franchise is known for. As well as gems, Crash 4 has cosmetic skins to unlock, time trials to beat and extra-hard flashback tapes to complete, making it stacked full of content to keep players entertained.
But for players to truly reach 100%, all the gems in Crash Bandicoot 4 must be found. This includes the four special colored gems, that are very easy to miss unless one knows exactly where to look. The second colored gem in Crash 4 that players will come across is the green gem. It can be found in the Hazardous Wastes dimension map during the ‘Hit the Road’ level.
Towards the end of Hit the Road, players will enter a steel ball and need to roll themselves away from N. Gin’s truck to survive. Following the first race segment, after Crash has broken out of the steel ball, players should look for a solo trash can on the left side of the screen. By spin-attacking this trash bin a lever will pop out onto the ground. Hit this switch and a remote controlled car will appear from one of the other bins.
Continue to spin-attack the lever repeatedly and the car will inch towards the nearby nitro crate, eventually colliding and exploding it. In the Nitro crate’s place the green gem will appear. Players can then collect the green gem but must complete the rest of the level in order to save it to their achievements. Once the level has been completed the green gem will unlock the Crash 4 Emerald Gemerald trophy.
The green gem is just one of hundreds of gems that can be collected in Crash 4. Each level has six gems that can be acquired by collecting Wumpa fruit, smashing crates and by keeping the death counter under three. Each level will also have an additional six gems to be collected in N. Verted mode, which is unlocked mid-way through the game. Collecting six gems in a level will allow players to unlock unique skins for Crash and Coco, which can make the extra challenge worth it.
There are also 21 new flashback tape levels in Crash 4, which are extra-difficult challenge levels set during the time that Cortex was experimenting on Crash and Coco. Completing flashback tapes will grant players different relics, with platinum flashback relics on the line, all of which count towards getting 100% completion in Crash 4.
