Pokemon GO Releases World Cap Pikachu for Limited Time

If there’s one thing better than a Pikachu, it’s a Pikachu wearing a hat. That seems to be the logic at the moment as, in the run-up to the release of the Crown Tundra DLC for Pokemon Sword and Shield, players can use special codes to obtain various Pikachu, all wearing one of Ash’s hats throughout the anime’s run. And today, Pokemon GO will be offering something similar.

Throughout the month of October, Pokemon GO will be having special Pokemon Spotlight Hours, which will take place every Tuesday from 6pm to 7pm local time. Since today, October 6th, is the very first one of these, Niantic is giving players the chance to catch a Pikachu wearing a cap.

There have been numerous special Pikachu players could obtain in the past, but this is the first time they can get a Pikachu wearing the same cap Ash is wearing in the current Pokemon Journeys anime series, dubbed the World Cap. This is in reference to the fact that the series has Ash visiting various regions across the world, including Galar, the setting of Sword and Shield.

However, this Pikachu will only be available for that hour today so players will need to act fast if they don’t want to miss out, especially as it likely won’t return to the game for quite a while afterwards. Catching any Pokemon during the hour will also earn players twice as much XP.

That’s not the only Pikachu Niantic is offering either. For the Spotlight Hour for the following week, on Tuesday October 13th, Pikachu will instead appear wearing the Original Cap, the iconic hat Ash wore throughout his adventures in Kanto, the Orange Islands, and Johto. As before, players can only get it between 6pm and 7pm local time and can earn twice as much Candy for catching Pokemon.

Pokemon GO players certainly won’t be lacking in things to do this month, as October also marks a new autumn update focused on Berries and will be making the Gen 5 Pokemon Deerling available for the first time. This Pokemon is unique for how its appearance, in the Black and White games, would change depending on the season.

However, this doesn’t mean fans are exactly thrilled with how Niantic is handling the game at the moment. Recently, Niantic opted to roll back on some of the changes it implemented to make the game easier to play at home due to the coronavirus pandemic, which drew criticism from fans who believe it’s still soon to be doing this.

Pokemon GO is available for Android and iOS devices.
