Xbox Series X May Have A Heat Problem | Game Rant

In a little over a month’s time, the Xbox Series X will hit store shelves as the most-powerful video game console on the market. And apparently, that kind of power is going to make the Xbox Series X generate significant heat. New reports from journalists who have been able to go hands-on with the Xbox Series X indicate that the console gives off a lot of heat, though it may not necessarily be as big of a problem as it may seem on the surface.

These reports were compiled by VGC, with the first coming from Jeux Video’s Ken Bogard. In a new Xbox Series X video, Bogard stated that the Xbox Series X is a quiet system, but it emits a significant amount of heat. Bogard compared the Xbox Series X heat to a fireplace shaft, and even went as far as to say that, “You can heat up your flat with it.” It’s worth pointing out that Bogard’s Xbox Series X generated this amount of heat while he was testing backward compatible games, so it’s possible that the Series X will run even hotter when playing more intensive, cutting-edge titles, though that has yet to be verified.

The other report on Xbox Series X’s possible heating issue stems from a video by Giant Bomb’s Jeff Bakkalar. Bakkalar echoed Bogard’s report about the Xbox Series X console giving off a lot of heat, though he noted that this happened even when the console was in standby mode. In the same video, Bakkalar removes an Xbox Series X expandable storage card and seemingly burns his hand on it, remarking that the card was also surprisingly hot.

When one looks back at Microsoft’s history of overheating consoles and the Xbox 360’s dreaded Red Ring of Death, it’s understandable that some fans may be concerned about these reports. However, there are a couple of key things to keep in mind. Firstly, the console emitting this much heat is not necessarily a bad thing as it is successfully expelling the heat. That’s exactly what the console’s unique design was meant to do, and so while the Xbox Series X may emit a lot of heat, it’s not necessarily overheating.

The other thing to keep in mind is that the Xbox Series X consoles that journalists have right now are pre-release builds and may not be indicative of what the actual final design will bring to the table in terms of heating.

With the Xbox Series X release date drawing closer, fans will soon be able to find out how exactly the console performs for themselves.

Xbox Series X launches November 10.
