Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War has released plenty of news regarding its Zombies mode and campaign as of late, and multiplayer is about to see its time in the spotlight once again. The Black Ops Cold War beta officially kicks off October 8, but fans can start the download process for the beta now.
Early access to the public PlayStation 4 beta this weekend requires a pre-order of one of the Black Ops Cold War digital editions. The Black Ops Cold War beta dates are different for the Xbox One and PC, not starting on those platforms until next week. Like the PlayStation beta, though, there will be an early access pre-order period and a public access period. PlayStation users will get access to the beta during the second week as well, as it will being public for everyone.
Pre-loading the beta requires no codes, with the only exception being if players won a giveaway or received a code through Xfinity, as those special scenarios should see players getting an email from Activision. As for the beta’s size, players can expect the PS4 version to take up 31.1 GB of their storage. While this is a decent-sized download, it is nothing like the currently huge amount of storage taken up by Modern Warfare.
Call of Duty players have a good idea of what to expect, as a trailer released yesterday showcasing every mode within the Black Ops Cold War beta. Classic modes such as Team Deathmatch and Domination will be available, as well as the 12v12 mode Combined Arms that was also seen in the alpha. As for new modes, players will get to try out VIP Escort, which sees players limited to one life and trying to move an NPC to an extraction zone similar to Rainbow Six Siege.
As for the Black Ops Cold War beta maps, players can expect everything from the alpha to be making a comeback in this second player test of the game. The neon-filled streets of Miami and the train station of Moscow will both be playable, and fan-favorite desert map Satellite will be playable as well. Both 12v12 maps, Armada and Crossroads, will be featured. Based on a map leak for Black Ops Cold War, the beta should also include one new map called Cartel, though it is unclear if it will be a 6v6 or a 12v12 map.
As for the weapons set to feature in the beta, many of the best Black Ops Cold War guns from the alpha should be returning, and they will likely be just as viable (aside from the heavily nerfed sniper rifles). For PS4 fans excited for the beta, they can boot up their console and begin the pre-load process now.
Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War will be available November 13 on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
