Evidence of Cheating in Super Mario Bros. 35 Appears | Game Rant

It’s become an unfortunate reality of online gaming that if a game becomes popular enough, it will eventually attract cheaters. Recently, players have complained about cheating in games like Among Us and Fall Guys, and now it seems like Super Mario Bros. 35, Nintendo’s battle royale spin on the original Super Mario Bros., is dealing with it too.

It hasn’t even been a week since Super Mario Bros. 35 went live, but already evidence has emerged suggesting that not everyone is using fair methods to get an edge over the competition. Fans have noticed that players are topping the leaderboard by collecting 99,999 coins in a single match. That’s far above what even the best players tend to earn in a typical match. Combined with the short amount of time that the game has been available, many are convinced that this feat shouldn’t be possible without hacking.

What’s more, a number of videos have been popping up claiming to show off cheats for getting unlimited coins and killing all opponents. However, these have been disappearing fast, as Nintendo appears to be taking action against any video showing hacks or providing tips on how to cheat in Super Mario Bros. 35.

At least one of these videos suggested that the game is incredibly easy for hackers to modify to their advantage. If that’s the case, Nintendo may have to do more to squash the game’s cheating problem than blocking the spread of information. It’s possible the company may add some form of anti-cheat measure, but as of this writing, the company has yet to divulge any plans or even officially acknowledge the hacking that seems to be going on.

Super Mario Bros. 35 is available on the Switch until March 31, 2021.
