Super Nintendo World Gets New Release Window | Game Rant

Many have been anticipating the opening of Nintendo‘s own theme park, Super Nintendo World. It was supposed to happen earlier this year in July, which would have also coincided with the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, but Universal Studios was forced to delay it due to the still ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

At the time, it wasn’t clear when the park would open instead, but it’s now being reported that Universal has announced a new opening window of spring 2021. A specific month wasn’t given, but Kotaku has suggested that it will most likely happen in April, as that’s when Japan is considering lifting its entry ban and reopen for tourists. That would make a lot of sense since there are no doubt a lot of people that want to visit Japan just for the Nintendo park.

Prior to its opening, a Mario Café and Store will also open, situated in the Hollywood area of Universal Studios Japan. In fact, it will be opening Friday, October 16th and will offer various Mario-themed food, drinks, and other products for die-hard fans to spend their money on.

Images of some of these products have been shared, which include what appear to be pancake sandwiches shaped like Mario and Luigi’s hats, Mario and Luigi-themed drinks with straws adorned with a moustache, and a cup made to look like a Super Mushroom.

So far, neither Nintendo nor Universal have confirmed exactly what sort of attractions fans can look forward to at the park, but there have been several leaked images that provide a general look at it, as well as some of the animatronics on display, including Yoshi and various enemies like the Goombas and Koopa Troopas.

Universal Studios Orlando is also supposed to getting its own version of Super Nintendo World in 2024 but, despite it still being four years away, that has also been delayed indefinitely due to the impact the coronavirus has had on the park’s earnings. At the time of writing, there has been no new clarification on when the new opening date is.

While the delay of the park may have been a blow to Nintendo, it has otherwise been enjoying a very successful financial year thanks to titles like Animal Crossing: New Horizons and Super Mario 3D All-Stars. As for future releases, fans only need to wait another month for Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, a prequel to Breath of the Wild.

It hasn’t all been good news, though, as the company is still facing complaints regarding the Joy-Con drift issue. Most recently, it’s been hit with another lawsuit by a ten year-old boy.
