Hot off the heels of the Minecraft reveal for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, fans have been speculating about who could be next for the popular fighter. One leaker claims to already know who the next Smash Bros. addition will be, and it should be familiar to fans of old school action adventure games.
According to Smash leaker Vergeben, who recently was proven correct due to the addition of Minecraft’s Steve to Smash Brothers, none other than Ryu Hayabusa from the Ninja Gaiden series may be getting an invitation to Smash. With a Ninja Gaiden Sigma trilogy supposedly coming to Switch next year, it would be a perfect time for the masked hero to join Smash’s gargantuan roster of playable characters.
According to Vergeben, the discussions regarding a Ninja Gaiden crossover did happen. The leaker states that Koei Temco, who owns the rights to the character, is super close with Nintendo. With that in mind, Vergeben believes it is highly unlikely that “those discussions fell through and didn’t result in anything.” The Ninja Gaiden crossover was part of Vergeben’s original leak for Smash Bros. Ultimate, which now seems far more credible than it once did.
The leak from Vergeben hints at the Doom Slayer possibly joining Smash as well, a crossover that would certainly be nice to see for fans of the silly crossover art featuring the Slayer and Isabelle from Animal Crossing. Another, less memed possibility comes from another leaker and sees Overwatch’s mascot Tracer possibly joining Smash Bros. Ultimate. The beloved character from the hero shooter could be coming sooner rather than later as well, with a good bit of evidence behind the potential inclusion.
Apart from leaks and rumors, plenty of developers and publishers have outright requested to have their characters be added into Super Smash Bros. Ultimate following the Steve reveal. Xbox pushed hard for the addition of Master Chief to Smash, with the platform claiming that the hero is “still waiting for his invitation.” Another, sillier request saw none other than Tetris asking to appear in the game, an addition that would certainly be a bit challenging to design for the Smash team.
Regardless of whether Ninja Gaiden’s Ryu is added to Smash Bros. next, he seems likely to come to the game eventually. Fans may want to master Steve’s deep, Minecraft-inspired moveset quickly, as shuriken and swords may be seen on Smash stages very soon.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is available now exclusively on Nintendo Switch.
