Xbox Makes Fun of PlayStation 5’s Stand | Game Rant

As the Holiday season approaches, console developers are getting into the spirit of things by poking fun at each other. Console war memes have been flying back and forth all summer, and Xbox has thrown another jab which seems to be directed squarely at PlayStation.

Xbox UK decided to illustrate in just two pictures exactly how to set up the Xbox Series X horizontally. It is simple, really. All a gamer has to do is pick the console up, rotate it 90° so that the disk drive is both on top and facing front with the USB port in the lower-left corner, then set the console down on its side. Unfortunately, the Xbox logo rotates with the console and is the only bit that looks out of place.

Gamers around the world have been wondering whether the PlayStation 5 could be set up in a horizontal position as they plan out their gaming spaces. It can, but the stand must be unscrewed from the base before it is rotated. After that, it just needs a stand positioned in the right spot to keep it from wobbling. This is due to the unique V-shape and the position of the disk drive.

Both consoles look better in a vertical position of course, but some gamers prefer the horizontal position due to space restrictions. Both the Xbox Series X and the Playstation 5 will definitely work while horizontal, but both were designed with the clear assumption that most gamers would choose a vertical orientation. There is a slight chance that being horizontal could impact the consoles’ ability to regulate heat, but until someone puts the consoles through their paces in both orientations and takes accurate readings, the question remains unanswered.

Several followers pointed out that the tweet from Xbox UK bears a striking resemblance to a short instructional video that PlayStation put out seven years ago to emphasize the PlayStation 4 would not have used game restrictions. The tongue-in-cheek video featured just one step, with a simple handoff of the game disk and a pointed “Thanks!” from the receiver.

Some fans in the comments expressed fatigue over the console wars as a phenomenon in general, which has been a thing since game consoles first landed on the market. The various feuds between companies like Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo, and Sega have been so intense that CBS All Access even has a documentary about it. This tweet is likely not going to be the last one Xbox makes of the matter. The ball is in PlayStation’s court now.
