Drifters Loot The Galaxy: 10 Reasons To Be Hyped For Blind Squirrel Entertainment’s Upcoming Game

The toxic work environment in the video game industry has been an open secret for years. Analysts from entertainment to business have been conjecturing when publishers and developers would finally be held accountable for their reprehensible behavior. Whether the crime is outright assault, mandatory crunch, cutting employee pay, or ignoring basic necessities, the victims have long been asking when enough will be enough.

Blind Squirrel Entertainment decided to be done waiting for a revolution from the major players and has decided to be the change they wish to see in the world. They have made commitments to their employees which are far superior to those of their competitors. It’s a fledgling organization and there is still a lot that could go wrong, but this list is designed to focus on the hope that they and their first game, Drifters Loot the Galaxy, are going to be a smashing success.

10 First Game?

To say that this is the team’s first game is a bit inaccurate. This is their first time making a game as the publisher and developer, but the team actually has an impressive line-up of games that they have worked on prior to this.

One of the fun facts about the XCOM franchise is that these guys were a huge part of making it happen! Additionally, they’ve worked on The Sims 4, Prey, the Bioshock series, Mafia 3, Borderlands 2, Trove, and more. So there’s more experience than one would think behind this “first” game.

9 Play It Now

Sure, in Pokémon, sometimes the beta versions can be better than the final product, but most of the time games only improve after a round of beta testing. Anybody in the United States and Canada that wants to be a part of that refining process can do so quite easily.

The game is available to beta test and play right now! So if the reader is getting excited about seeing what exactly this space shooter has to offer, there’s no need to take this writer’s word for it. Head on over to Steam and give it a download!

8 “Class” System

Fantasy and RPG games like Final Fantasy 14 are used to considering class systems, but a space shooter? Blind Squirrel Entertainment has decided to test the waters of how expansive the genre can be.

The “class” system is based on the character selected and the loadout they come with. So the various characters are not re-skins or vanity customizations, they have their own unique skills and abilities. And speaking of their specialized abilities…

7 Ability Customization

Shooters are plagued with annoying mechanics and one of those mechanics is the linear progression system. Drifters Loot the Galaxy has decided to flip the script. Instead of merely unlocking power, players will be given access to ability choices.

This adds a layer of complexity not often explored in the genre of shooters. Questions will change from, “What level are you?” to “How did you choose to build your character?” It’s a refreshing direction and a bold one at that for a first publication.

6 Jetpacks

Gamers that gather with their friends and discuss things like trajectory, flight patterns, aerial formations, and air-to-ground weapons will make spectators assume the conversation is around Flight Simulator. But there’s another hat in the ring for games that use this terminology.

Drifters Loot the Galaxy equips the character with jetpacks, or rather Driftpacks, that give the battlefield an extra dimension. Allies will have an extra direction of attack against their foes as they fire down from the skies. And that’s not the only bonus movement Blind Squirrel Entertainment has served up.

5 Grappling Hooks

“Climbing” is an expression in the video game industry used to discuss rising in ranks. Players of tactical shooters like Valorant share tips on how to climb the ladder. Drifters Loot the Galaxy is offering another, more physical kind of climbing.

In addition to the Driftpack, players have access to a grappling hook to help them get around the maps. These items are sure to add an amount of dynamic mobility to a genre where gamers are exhausted of static and linear gameplay.

4 Low Gravity

Players have often felt the slowdown in games like The Elder Scrolls VI: Skyrim after equipping some heavy armor. Armor might not be a similar problem in this game as low-gravity environments have been incorporated into the maps.

So the space setting is more than just thematic, it is part of the physics. Gone are the days of parachutes and broken ankles; they have been replaced by space stations and stars. Amateur players will have to balance their love of flight with being a floating target!

3 Level Up

Not every system has been repealed and replaced by Blind Squirrel Entertainment; some have been upgraded instead. Each character will have their own levels, giving players something to aspire to when they play.

So players don’t need to worry that their favorite aspects of leveling, like in Ghost Recon: Breakpoint, have been abandoned entirely. Gamers will still be able to develop a chemistry with one of the game’s characters and improve on that chemistry even further as they play together.

2 Sci-Fi Shooting

It remains to be seen how realistic this sci-fi video game will be, but even the most fanciful interpretation of the future will be a welcome addition. Shooters have a wide variety of timelines, from historical wars to advanced modern combat, but very few imagine this concept of these battles among the asteroids.

Drifters Loot the Galaxy is constructed by a team of people who care about both shooters and sci-fi. Blind Squirrel Entertainment is not scared to break the standard industry practice that these two aspects of gamer fantasies remain separate.

1 It’s Free!

As though there could be a better reason to give Drifters Loot the Galaxy a shot, this is a reminder that it’s free! The developers explained that “space thugs never prepay” when they made their sales pitch to the gaming community. And after getting burned enough times by pre-ordered games, nobody will complain about that.

With this model, Blind Squirrel Entertainment has promised “ever-expanding gameplay.” Keeping the game fresh will be a challenge, but the stars, not the sky, is the limit for this emerging studio, and gamers around the globe are wishing them the best.
