Destiny 2: Beyond Light Trailer Secretly Revealed New Vex Enemy?

There has been a lot of news lately with the upcoming release of Destiny 2: Beyond Light, the first in a lineup of new expansions for Destiny 2. With Destiny heading to Europa in the newest expansion, several new trailers have been showing off what’s to come. The latest trailer revealed various new weapons and gear players will be able to get their hands on when Beyond Light arrives, and it also gives a quick glimpse of a new enemy guardian will face, too.

Initially, the new Beyond Light trailer focuses on new Exotic armor and weaponry that will be available to players while demonstrating the various new Stasis abilities as well. However, for a couple of seconds, viewers get a quick preview of a new enemy type from the Vex, the species of alien time-traveling cyborgs. The bronze cyborgs have always been a mystery for the Destiny universe, and now they have a new enemy unit shown in the trailer that guardians will face in the upcoming expansion.

While new information on the Vex unit hasn’t been officially revealed yet, users on Reddit picked up on the new enemy and developed their own theories. Reddit User SeekingKnowledge101 timestamped the video at 0:48, when viewers first see the enemy, and for the rest of the post referred to it as the “Typhoon” used by other users. They mention how the Vex Typhoon in Beyond Light’s new exotics trailer bears similarities to the established Vex Harpy, only with two legs for mobility instead of levitating.

SeekingKnowledge101 points out the “Typhoon” has a striking resemblance to the new Vex enemy briefly shown in Beyond Light‘s Europa trailer. In the Europa trailer, at around 1:22, viewers can see what appears to be the same enemy type or a variation of the Vex seen in the new trailer, as it’s lifting itself up in the air with its legs curling up before it lunges forward at Guardians. They mention how the Typhoon is seen using the electric Arc energy in both instances, establishing a commonality between the two as either the same unit or a variation of it.

SeekingKnowledge101 would later theorize that this new Vex “Typhoon” is likely a part of the true Vex warriors mentioned by the Cabal Emperor Calus. In recent game lore, Calus tells the guardians how they have been facing only the scientific forces of the Vex, “scientists and engineers” and not their true military might. There have been theories of new enemies in Destiny 2 that may show up in the game, whether it’s the mysterious fifth race or something else entirely. Players will be able to find out if there are even more enemies on the way when the expansion launches this November.

Destiny 2: Beyond Light launches November 10, 2020 on PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One with a PS5 and Xbox Series X version in development.
