Pokemon GO Leaks Shadow Mewtwo Special Research and Strange Eggs

Pokemon GO gave players the chance to catch Shadow Mewtwo during the GO Fest 2020 event, but now it seems even more players will have the opportunity to add the special legendary Pokemon to their collection. Pokemon GO dataminers have dug through the game’s latest update files, finding evidence that new Team Rocket-themed Special Research is on the way, which will culminate in a Shadow Mewtwo encounter.

According to dataminers, the Pokemon GO Shadow Mewtwo Special Research is called “An Inter-egg-sting Development” and it will feature a new item called Strange Eggs (formerly referred to in datamines as Shadow Eggs). This new six-step Special Research will presumably be designed to teach Pokemon GO players about Strange Eggs, and how they may differ from the eggs that players can already collect in the popular augmented reality mobile game.

Apparently, Strange Eggs in Pokemon GO will drop from Rocket Leaders, giving players another reason to do battle with Team Rocket in the game. Players are then able to hatch Strange Eggs like they would hatch any other eggs in the game, putting them in an incubator and walking a certain distance. The difference, though, is that Strange Eggs will supposedly only hatch Poison and Dark type Pokemon.

Before Pokemon GO fans get too excited about potentially catching Shadow Mewtwo or hatching Strange Eggs in their game, they should keep in mind that the information in this leak has not been verified by Niantic. It’s entirely within the realm of possibility that none of this content will actually make it into Pokemon GO proper, and that these plans have been scrapped by the development team.

If the Shadow Mewtwo Special Research and Strange Eggs are coming to Pokemon GO, it will be interesting to see when they make their debut. Right now, Pokemon GO is in the midst of its Autumn event, and later this month, it is expected to kick off its annual Halloween event. With Pokemon GO being especially busy in the month of October, maybe these features will debut in November. Alternatively, Niantic may wait to add these features until wintertime in an effort to keep more people playing during the colder months.

While Pokemon GO fans wait for more information on the next Special Research, they can continue the Victini Special Research and try to wrap up any remaining Special Research tasks that they may have left over from previous events.

Pokemon GO is out now for iOS and Android mobile devices.
