Nintendo Switch Joy-Con Price Reduced in Japan | Game Rant

The Nintendo Switch has seen quite its fair share of success since its initial launch. In Japan especially, the console has been very well received, with sales of retail units and games showing no signs of slowing down. Though, it seems that Japanese Nintendo Switch users will be able to purchase additional Joy-Con controllers at a reduced cost.

As previously mentioned, the Nintendo Switch has seen a great deal of success and popularity, but nowhere in the world is that more so the case than in Japan, considering that in just three years, the Switch outsold the Wii in Japan as the highest-selling console of all time. Although, with the console having been released over three years ago, this increase in sales has also led to a rise in console peripheral sales.

The Joy-Con controllers have existed since the Nintendo Switch first launched. While they are easily one of the more accessible controller options in terms of the Switch, they are decently pricey. A single Joy-Con costs $49.99 retail and a bundle of two controllers costs $79.99. However, starting in early November, that will no longer be the case, at least in Japan.

Nintendo recently announced that the retail cost of the Joy-Con controllers in Japan will go from 4,480 yen to 3,740 yen. In US dollars, that’s from roughly $44.80 to $37.40. That is a price reduction of nearly 17%.  Given the already decently high cost of the Nintendo Switch Joy-Cons, this price decrease is definitely something for Japanese Switch users to look forward to. It should be noted that this price reduction only applies to singular Joy-Cons only, not the bundled controllers.

This begs to question that if Japanese consumers are getting a price cut, will Western consumers get a price reduction as well. Considering all of the problems surrounding Joy-Con controller drift, it would certainly be a nice gesture on Nintendo’s part.

Within the last several months, there has been a high volume of lawsuits made against Nintendo regarding the consistency of controller drift, especially when it comes to the Joy-Cons. In fact, Nintendo was recently sued by a child over Joy-Con controller drift, fully showcasing how much of an impact controller drift has had in terms of numerous users’ experiences with the Nintendo Joy-Cons. Only time will tell if Nintendo will take the steps necessary to prevent further controller drift. Perhaps the supposed release of the Nintendo Switch Pro will fix these issues.
