Only a couple of days ago, the PUBG Corporation announced that for PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, it would be adding a dynamic map called Paramo, a feature that certainly helps make the battle royale more distinct against its rivals, like Fortnite and Apex Legends.
Today, PUBG Corporation confirmed that Paramo will be added to PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds as part of the Season 9 update, which will release on October 21st for PC and October 29th for consoles and Stadia, with test servers becoming available on October 14th for PC and October 19th for consoles. As such, the publisher has provided more concrete information about what exactly Paramo is, how it works, and other additions which will be included in the new season.
Described as a land filled with ancient secrets and located in the highlands of South America, Paramo has major landmarks which change with every match, meaning players can’t memorize a single layout. This dynamic world system requires players to constantly adapt their tactics when playing in Paramo.
There are some constants that players will need to look out for. Firstly, there is a volcano from which streams of molten lava will flow across the map, which will no doubt quickly kill anyone who steps in it, even while driving a vehicle.
PUBG Corporation also states that anyone who finds themselves in the Blue Zone on Paramo will take more damage when compared to other maps and it’s even possible to wind up outside of the play zone itself, which will result in instant death if a player is there for too long. A new item called the Critical Response Kit has been added to counter this exact problem, as it will revive a downed player in only a second.
Lastly, the helicopters that drop players into the map will carry cargo and drop it just outside of the play area. However, it’s possible to force the helicopters to drop their cargo early by shooting it enough times.
As for the new ranked season, PUBG Corporation has incorporated a Ranked Solo queue, meaning players can compete against each other solo and not in squads. This is a feature that has been heavily demanded for ages and was promised only last month.
A new Survivor Pass is available too, though this one will only run for two months. While this is less time than usual, the pass will be quicker to complete to compensate for it. Players eager to obtain all of its rewards will only need to reach level 50.
Time will tell if this new season is the shot in the arm PUBG needs. Last month, PUBG Corporation was hit by the blow of the mobile version being banned in India, leading to dropping its publishing partnership with Tencent.
Though maybe not as popular as it once was, PUBG is still quite possibly one of the most influential shooters ever made, as its initial popularity is what led to the battle royale genre kicking off and leading to the eventual creation of Fortnite.
Speaking of Fortnite, though it might be more of a household name, the lawsuit between Epic Games and Apple is still ongoing and a judge recently ruled that the game could not be reinstated to the Apple store for the time being, following it being banned from it.
PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is available on Android, iOS, PC, PlayStation 4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
